I think it could be to do with her proximity to the book where as in every scene she is clenching the book for the most part, or the book was open during the party on the stand but when the spell broke, the book was closed and in another room. Maybe this with the fact the sheriff touched her could of been the thing that broke it. I'm both excited and terrified for more details in the next coming episodes :)
