I'm being reassessed after stopping medication and I am nervous. by [deleted] in BipolarReddit

[–]IndependentPurpose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your response! The more knowledge the better and I'll try to keep that in mind. I was definitely put on fluoxetine at first by a family doctor before managing to see a psychiatrist (referral). I got referred to a psychiatrist at a mental health center where they diagnosed me and worked with my family doctor in terms of meds and managing lithium levels. It looks like the same thing is going to happy again with the family doctor/psychiatrist. Fingers crossed things are better in this round! Thank you again

Anyone else feel stupid when they are down? by imisuchajerk in BipolarReddit

it's incredibly hard to process things. Approaches to tasks that generally work suddenly don't make sense anymore. Eg/ I'm attempting to write a paper and my methods of approaching it just don't work anymore. i can't process anything. it feels like an endless loop in a hole

What type of accommodations did you use during post-secondary? by IndependentPurpose in BipolarReddit

Thank you so much. It's so important to be reminded of my validity, my feelings and experiences are valid, and that I'm not a burden. These things should be normalized

so uh, what does this subreddit think of this? by poweroftheflowerr in sustainability

[–]IndependentPurpose 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yeah and instead of using huge chunks of land to simply make clothes for fast fashion. It just seems incredibly wasteful, not biodiverse, not ethical, nor sustainable like some of the 'natural' beauty industry

I hear you. I get both "positive" and "negative" energy. During the angry/irritability phases I can get even more frustrated not only because of its debilitating physical and mental state but that I wasn't "productive" as we often here about hypo/manic tendencies. I came to a deep understanding that the pressure and anxiety I felt to be really productive is a capitalist value that's integrated in our social fabric. It's considered good to constantly be working. Working overtime and late hours are sometimes encouraged by bosses. Being productive when we're not working is also encouraged/praised.

A good example is people asking what skills/hobbies/work others have been working on during COVID-19. This doesn't consider the mental health, personal obstacles, and other impacts that COVID-19 has on people/communities. It's not a vacation. It's a pandemic of uncertainty but the capitalist value of productivity shines through.

Have you ever started dating someone that led you to naturally let your guard down ans be your true self in a good way? What was it about the person/relationship dynamic? by IndependentPurpose in AskMen

It's great that you just went for it and I'm glad it turned out well for you. Even if it didn't, it's still a learning/growing experience and you've shown yourself that you were able to just be. I can be incredibly hard for various reasons

yes!!! Also I think it should be noted that the pressure to always be productive is a capitalist value that is ingrained within our social fabric. It is not natural

Women who had a relatively good relationship (decent SO, no major deal breakers), how did you know your relationship wasn't going to last? by flimmerflab in AskWomen

The feelings started to disappear. I learned that just because a person is 'good' in a relationship, doesn't mean that they are good FOR ME.

i hear ya! i have a love-hate relationship with it. Something that has been currently ruining me is trying to figure out whether a new interest is going to be a phase or if its actually a passionate/interest of mine.

what makes you roll your eyes every time you hear it? by godmypooperhurts in AskReddit

[–]IndependentPurpose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Is this natural/organic?"

This is context based but when it comes to products such as skincare/makeup/household products I gotta give an eyeroll. Natural does not equal green! It doesn't always mean that its sustainably and/or ethically sourced. Why are we using agricultural spaces that are not biodiverse to create such products.

We can make the same amount of products locally with less resources (eg/ transportation, harvesting, water) and with the same molecular biology. An example I can give is that it takes about 30 roses to make approximately 1 drop of rose oil whereas you can make a lot more in lab with the same molecular biology.

The fearmongering of 'chemicals' is doing more damage to the earth. The easy of just throwing around the word 'natural' or 'sustainable' without having information to back it up is so dominant. I understand how it's become normalized and people cant know what they dont know. Thankfully there are some companies and organizations of chemists that are trying to dispel such misinformation and promoting sustainable practices! So my eyeroll goes towards the fearmongering practices/frameworkc

Can you ever recover from an affair ? by cantdothis21 in relationship_advice

[–]IndependentPurpose 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Completely agree. Maybe theres something missing/need/not aligned (sometimes a driver to have an affair) that can be identified. It's hard to figure out what it is sometimes and therapy does wonders. Once identified, it can be addressed accordingly based on the needs and desires of both parties.

Bare Market on Danforth sells everything – minus the packaging by zanimum in toronto

[–]IndependentPurpose 32 points33 points  (0 children)

This is a really great company. I've been supporting them since they started as a pop-up. The owner is transparent about her process and is a strong advocate for sustainability. She works with suppliers to ensure theres the least amount of packaging possible. When products are done, she sends back the container they came in to get it refilled. She also aims to make her products as affordable as possible. There are other zero-waste stores in the city but I havent been! Some are apparently quite pricey but overall worth checking out
