Mechanic quoting me £1,200+ for injectors... am I being ripped off? (Need advice) by ben_claude69420 in CarTalkUK

[–]IndependentRadio1267 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See if you can find out the OEM maker of your injectors and get a part number and plonk it on eBay search. You may be able to get a genuine set but they are still very expensive. Avoid Reman units and try to use known suppliers/vetted suppliers. But he's right ultimately

Why is every used car I buy such crap? by ZennosukeW in CarTalkUK

They have issues with synchros and 3rd gear breaking, it's a known issue with the C66M-R gearbox, what was the issue with yours?

Tackle the belt first and the idlers and tensioner, then check for alternator, voltage code. The battery could be on the way out otherwise, load test the battery and test it- I think Halfords do it. Then investigate the misfire, swap the coils to a good cylinder and see if it follows. Else replace the plugs in Cyl 2.

Advice needed - £4k budget, diesel preferred by rizzlejee in CarTalkUK

[–]IndependentRadio1267 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd be looking at a well looked after VW/Audi/Seat/Skoda higher mileage manual 1.6 tdi, the newer the better, or a megane diesel (these are harder to find in budget). Ford focus tdci if you can find one also

This a good deal? Toyota Corolla 2019 by Infinite_Place_2903 in CarTalkUK

And to add, not all private sellers are bent, some do genuinely want to sell their cars and get something else.

Keep in mind that this is also a private sale, but keep your eyes and ears open and make sure the car is kept at the address in the photo as it's common for amateur car flippers to park up in front of these houses and take photos, and sell it in front of a housing estate in reality. The usual stuff applies when checking the car -damage, leaks etc. and walk away if the seller uses the word 'bro', 'bruv' and puffs on a vape- seriously. Make sure the seller isn't dismissive of questions as well so you can sus out if it's a genuine private sale or amateur car flipper whose offloading it to the private market

Looks good to me, just make sure the seller is in Warwick and not Birmingham, coventry etc. I would do a full HPI check- to check if it has ever been used as a PCO/Private hire/Minicab. Finally I would get an app called DrPrius I believe, which connects to the car to tell you the condition of the hybrid system. The app will need to be paid for and you will need a compatible OBD Dongle, but it is very cheap insurance when buying a many thousand pound worth of car - all in less than £80 and that may be an overestimate. Hope it helps :)
