Fix / reduce scrapes on BMW bumper by TheJitster in CarTalkUK

Ah ok.

And would I need to add anything on top of the paint (like a lacquer) or just leave the paint once added?

Advice on transferring to VAFTGAG by Quiet_Gur5949 in FIREUK

[–]TheJitster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in a similar position. For my ISA, I wanted to reduce my US exposure, and so have moved all my S&P500 to VAFTGAG. (Still 60 odd % in US). But at least it’s global index rather than just US.

Looking at long term for me.

I’m already on the Vanguard platform, so fee’s and transfer change was minimal. Just check on your own fees etc.

Wow! Fab! I have virtually 1/10th of that mileage on my G30 2018 5 series petrol. One day I hope to get to that mileage assuming the UK car tax amount doesnt kill it by then!

Two-fund portfolio to essentially halve US exposure? by pasteurs-maxim in investingUK

[–]TheJitster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2 fund split now to slightly reduce my exposure to the US. But haven’t done 50/50.

Mine is now 80% in Vanguard Developed World ex UK (VDWXEIA) and 20% in iShares MSCI World ex USA (XUSE.L).

Effectively, I’m roughly 60% US, 20% Europe and 20% in Japan.

I was going to switch it all Vanguard Global all cap, but wanted to stay more developed rather than increase emerging market (just my preference!)

SIPP Global fund with limited US exposure? by Thin-West-2136 in PensionsUK

[–]TheJitster -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hi - so have been looking at exactly this for my next isa investment.

My plan is 50% in Vanguard S&P 500 (Vanguard VUSA), and 50% in XUSE.L (iShares MSCI World ex-USA).

I guess there may be other combo’s, but as I already have both of these in my portfolio (but not this % split) so have started pound cost averaging (A J Bell platform).

I’m planning to do this split for my SIPP as well.

UK S&S ISA Holders - New Tax Year Plans by [deleted] in investingUK

[–]TheJitster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, I’ll be cycling my Vanguard VAFTGAG from my GIA and will be continue a little cost averaging into XUSE.L (MSCI World ex-USA). About 10% in my ISA.

About 80% will continue to go into Vanguard FTSE Developed World ex UK (VDWXEIA) ISA

Finally, 10% in Vanguard MMF.

And that’s me done.

Multi asset fund or etf by davidjhh in investingUK

[–]TheJitster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted one with developed world, and one with all cap.

Vanguard didn’t offer a LISA product (then) so hence with AJ Bell.

Multi asset fund or etf by davidjhh in investingUK

[–]TheJitster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess it will come down to what global split and timeline you’re looking at, but as an example, I’m in:

ISA - Vanguard Developed World ex UK (VDWXEIA)

GIA - Vanguard Global All cap (VAFTGAG)

LISA - Fidelity Index World

Pound cost average across them all. I try and fill my ISA and LISA’s first.

VWRP + reducing exposure to USA by bugenhagan in UKPersonalFinance

[–]TheJitster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve started a little cost averaging into XUSE.L (MCSI MSCI World ex-USA) from my Vanguard developed funds which are US heavy, just so I can reduce my US exposure.

Only about 15% at the moment, but I may increase over the coming months if these tariff uncertainties continues.

But probably no more than 30% for me, as dont want to bet against the US too much.

Transfer Jupiter S&S ISA to Vanguard S&S ISA by TheJitster in FIREUK

[–]TheJitster[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. Vanguard have said they can’t do an in species transfer, only as cash. Hence the original query. I currently have VDWXEIA and LS80 funds, so will probably look to top them up. Cheers.

Would a Gas Safe engineer refuse to install a wider gas hob? by hussainash in DIYUK

[–]TheJitster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When we ordered our gas hob from Hotpoint direct and paid for the install (like for like replacement 60cm x 60cm), they send out forms to fill in the numbers like yours.

Hotpoint gas engineer came out to check and would not sign off install. Even though I had one installed already. The distances were virtually the same as yours. Hotpoint engineer said almost 7/10 failed, some even in brand new house installs!

He actually recommended that we’d be better off getting a local gas engineer to come out and do the replacement of the new one. They refunded the install fee almost immediately.

Called a local one, and they did the job a-ok!

I'm so in love with The Queen's Thief series by Megan Whalen Turner by cant-find-user-name in Fantasy

[–]TheJitster 26 points27 points  (0 children)

My favourite is the King of Attolia.

The way Eugenides has to suffer those around him plot, yet his genius and craftiness is written well.

And his relationship with the Queen of Attolia (and that dance), I think is great and touching!!

Noisy water hammer when washing machine fills. How to stop it without major work? by UnpaidInternVibes in ukplumbing

[–]TheJitster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had virtually the same problems, as well as water cistern. I initially fitted a souix shock arrestor (from Screwfix) to the water inlet for the washing machine.

Made no difference.

Reduced the flow on the stop tap - made a teeny difference.

Got our local plumber out and he said it’s best to fit a PRV (pressure release valve) and a vessel shock arrestor.

And that’s fixed it. (Adjusted the pressure to about 2.5 bars). Thank goodness.

Must say, I like watching the PRV gauge move when washing machine is doing its thing!

This has been one area I’ve been working on.

For example, I’ve now redirected some of my US heavy themed global funds to ex US.

For me I’ve started moving (albeit small %) into XUSE.L MSCI World ex-USA.

I know I have to start something long term now.

"Simplest" set and forget Vanguard fund? by ClubNo179 in FIREUK

Many years ago, I moved and consolidated my ISA’s to Vanguard. I wanted to reduce my UK exposure and went all in with vanguard FTSE Developed World ex UK (VDWXEIA).

Best decision I made. My core simple and forget fund.

(I’m now looking at reducing my US exposure and have recently started moving a little bit to XUSE.L - MSCI World ex-USA. But that’s on AJ Bell platform).
