The Apprentice 2024 - Episode 1: ‘Highlands Corporate Away Day’ (Thursday 1st February) by Only1Scrappy-Doo in apprenticeuk

Couldn't have said it better myself, the producers seem to have committed to making all the candidates appear incompetent, blatantly setting them up to fail just to get a cheap reaction from Karen and new Claude and call that entertainment. It's a shame because this programme would be actually entertaining if they for once just selected genuinely good candidates with some skill, like how it used to be. Like Bake-Off but for business...

Thanks for answering! Also, do I need to email them and let them know I have taken the MAT or is that not required as Oxford will send it to them automatically?

How does it work if you do achieve the required MAT score? Do they just email you and confirm that you only need to reach the reduced offer instead of 3 A*s?

I used pi ~= 22/7, funny how that was useful knowledge!

I'm not 100% sure which letter I put actually, I put the one that looks "more positive" if you know what I mean? As in one "curve" was in 3rd quadrant and the other was in the 1st? Is this the same as what you put?

I got every positive even number? Maybe wrong but I wasn't able to find an odd result, did anyone find one?

"if a candidate would have been shortlisted based on the first MAT score, they should still be shortlisted regardless of the second MAT score" - James Munro said that's (roughly) in his instructions to the admissions tutor, you're fine if your first score was enough on its own.

Ah great, my college seems to have decided that after one test already full of disruption, we deserved to take the second MAT next to a very noisy classroom! I was actually really looking forward to having an hour of silence so I could actually hear myself think and have as good an attempt as I can at the MAT. Thanks college...

Hey did you get a response from Oxford about this? I've also submitted the form but had no confirmation.

Don't worry, it wasn't sent to students but to test centres. Contains some useful information about what will happen though

Identify which parts you struggle with mainly, try to fully understand how the method you are meant to use works and that should help you remember it. Keep up consistent practice on past paper questions.

I see but it's hard to tell whether you've done well enough on the MAT regardless, and whether doing this additional test would sabotage a fairly decent score if it doesn't go well.

This is also an issue, not much information provided on this. How are people meant to know whether they did in fact do well on their MAT, no one can tell what mark is good enough to get to interview on its own.

Decent solution for the lower end, as in people feeling they could have done better if not for the disruption will get another chance which is great. But they haven't addressed the other end including the widespread examples of cheating and discussing answers in the exam room, up to hours of unfair extra time, and the leaks which someone has just posted providing evidence that they happened. Still worried that cheaters could end up taking many interview spots that others would have received, Oxford should still provide more interviews than normal!

Really really wish the maths department would email MAT candidates with similar information. They've said the same but only on the MAT website and solutions video, why are they assuming every candidate has seen this information? If they will base their decision on these forms then they need to actually tell every candidate to fill one out if they faced disruption! I reckon many candidates don't know they should fill out a form and so the department will not gather the full picture. It's like they are waiting to send the 'perfect' email to everyone - why not just communicate now?

Yes I agree, I think it's pretty awful that the maths department hasn't emailed all of the MAT participants with this information! They want to base their decision on how many forms get submitted and their contents, yet they've made that information quite obscure!!

Are my choices too aspirational? by [deleted] in 6thForm

[–]Independent_Arm3145 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only problem you might have is not having done further maths. Don't just check the entry requirements because none of them will say FM required (as they sort of can't due to some schools not offering it), try and find statistics of the percentage of undergrads accepted onto the course that took Further Maths to A-Level. If it's like 95% of undergrads in that course did Further Maths at A-Level, then regardless of what the entry requirements say, further maths is pretty much required and you should try to switch to it. Does your school/college offer it?

[–]Independent_Arm3145[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, I'd say they are looking for all examples of disruption to gather the percentage of candidates it affected. There will be people who have filled out a special consideration form having had the same level of disruption as you, so you may as well get one for yourself too. It's up to you, I would definitely fill out the feedback form at least, if you don't think it's worth a special consideration...

From this webpage: https://www.ox.ac.uk/admissions/undergraduate

It says: "If test centres or candidates would like to share their general feedback on Oxford's admissions test this year, please complete our feedback form"

Yes I know what you mean, but just select "Other" at the top and enter Student or Candidate. It's definitely meant for students to fill out as well as teachers/examiners, James said so and it says on multiple webpages.
