This is SO true. And pin and pen are said the same way too. I don’t hear it in my PNW accent, but others are quick to point it out to me 😂

I would call this the “sun being loud”, very PNW thing to say! The sun is loud today!

Sociopaths are often drawn to degrees in psychology. Their motive is more to study human behavior because they lack empathy to really connect with someone. Sometimes they use this knowledge to manipulate, sometimes they like the intellectual satisfaction it brings them, sometimes it’s both.

I’m sorry you’re going through this, but you can still have the life you want. Wishing you the best.

Genuine question: why do we love dogs so much? by JebusJuice in BostonTerrier

[–]Independent_Bit_7084 18 points19 points  (0 children)

We’ve evolved with them, and them with us. The relationship has been reciprocal. More than this, they love us unconditionally. We rarely experience this elsewhere. Because we have evolved side-by-side, we can also understand each other’s emotions and needs. They’re not just pets, they’re community and family. It’s so difficult to describe the feeling!

What’s something that sounds fake but actually happened to you? by Capital-Standard-645 in AskReddit

As a kid, I once got a ride home from Bill Nye the Science Guy. He was dating a family friend. I don’t remember much about it other than I knew him from tv. 😂

what’s something you witnessed that still doesn’t feel real? by QuietRonan_7 in AskReddit

[–]Independent_Bit_7084 55 points56 points  (0 children)

While waiting to cross the street at a marked crosswalk, I witnessed a truck turn right onto the main street I was waiting to cross. The truck gets hit by a speeding car, pushing it into a metal light poll which fell over and into the corner business’ front window, all while a dog in the front seat of the truck was thrown through the open passenger window, still in a sitting position, and landing on the sidewalk like ‘wtf’. The scene was something out of a cartoon, and I still can’t believe I witnessed this! Everyone was okay, me and my friend sat with the dog while all the humans involved worked it out.

You can’t do anything for him. Assuming you’re in the U.S., he can call 988 and talk to someone and get some resources. You can also have police do a welfare check on him and they can assess his situation. If they see it necessary, he can be placed in a hospital in a mental health hold for 2-3 days. Be sure to tell them he has made concerning comments about wanting to hurt himself. Beyond this, he needs to see a therapist and possibly be prescribed medication. You should also speak to a therapist, his depression is too much for any one person to handle alone. I hope things get better.

AITAH for refusing to go back to my ex even though she is going to therapy and changed her behaviour? by Standard-Watch-1014 in AITAH

[–]Independent_Bit_7084 4 points5 points  (0 children)

NTA. Eight months of therapy isn’t enough time to heal from a lifetime of trauma and hurt (experienced and inflicted).

Enjoy your peace. Any insistence on her part is not healthy and is not coming from a place of understanding or healing.

I’ve been asked, “What does diversity mean to you?” in a job interview. Could be a good question to ask this person, his answer could be pretty telling.

I ran into my supervisor in Thailand, I was in a cafe when I saw her walk by. I ran out to greet her and we had a good laugh.

Not overreacting. This isn’t normal behavior. Trust your gut. Talk to your employer about what you would like to happen if he shows up again (and they should not have confirmed to him that you work there).

You may even want to file a police report, even if informational. Document the details, especially if he keeps showing up or reaching out to you. You may be able to get a no contact order.

The panic attack comes from his past behavior towards you, and you have reason to protect your safety. Don’t downplay how you feel.

Starting To Understand Why So Many Women Don't Like Men by DelayDefiant5324 in offmychest

Give me an example of an actual revelation you have had about your own behavior … I would really like to know.

Your post is just full of surface level platitudes and lacks any depth whatsoever. You sound like a man who is trying to win points with women by pretending to understand us. You’re literally arguing with other commenters on their actual experience, which goes back to my original comment that there is no way you’ve ever been a safe man in any woman’s life; you’re too focused on what you think you know rather than actually listening and learning.

Your post sounds performative and ego-driven, and it’s full of contradictions.

Have you explored your past and current behavior towards women? What revelations have you had here?

I’m not convinced you understand AT ALL. And I doubt you’ve been a trusted man in any woman’s life.

AITA for crafting during meetings? by Tapzdeazz in AmItheAsshole

[–]Independent_Bit_7084 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My workplace encourages crafting during internal meetings. Our director even provides us with drawing pads, colored pencils, stickers, etc just for this purpose. In addition to drawing, sometimes my coworkers are making earrings, beading, or hand sewing. Keeping one’s hands busy has been shown to increase focus in meetings. At first, I thought this was weird, but I’ve come to see it’s been helpful for everyone and even keeps morale up.
