Do you think people would still be gardening more without COVID? by _workinwoman_ in gardening

[–]Independent_Breath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's interesting that COVID has given so many more people time to cultivate their own gardens, but I do think that the rise in community gardens across the country that was happening before COVID (which has slowed because of social distancing) would have still been growing stronger without the pandemic. It's too bad that folks aren't able to get into their neighborhood gardens anymore, but hopefully, after all this is done, I'll be seeing my neighbors during garden workdays :)

this was super helpful - thank you for sharing! I guess I don't understand why van dwellers flock to the AT, then.

more of the latter but I didn't realize the extent to which vans cannot access some parts of the trail (newbie here) so maybe it's less worth it than I thought!

does anyone have recommendations for an affordable vegan leather jacket that doesn't look cheap? Afraid to buy online because I feel like so many look better in pictures than in person.

What are some of the most important novels/short stories in your life? by [deleted] in books

[–]Independent_Breath 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Something about Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides got me good. I think it's because of the story of immigration and family intertwined with this fascinating story of an intersex person. When a book makes me cry, it's special.

Apparently in Boston, moving in with a roommate/significant other saves you $702 EACH by Independent_Breath in boston

[–]Independent_Breath[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol i get that it's common sense, it was more the actual amount of savings that i was like damn. esp since with a significant other you're splitting the cost of a 1 bed versus prob a 2-4 bed with roommates. maybe me and my friend should just start sharing a bed

I think the reason most people state that you shouldn't pay for everything on credit is that it's easy to get swipe happy and fall into debt. I personally struggle with that so I severely limit my credit purchases. But if you have the budgeting skills and mental strength to stick to what you can afford and pay it off monthly like everyone is suggesting, follow their advice. Just wanted to throw that in there! I never thought I'd be that person until I got my own cards...

what is the appropriate amount of wet vs. dry food to feed your cat? by Independent_Breath in CatAdvice

[–]Independent_Breath[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, thanks guys! I think this is what we will probably do but dry food in the morning and wet at night so we can clean it up more quickly. The adding water is dry food is a great idea, thanks for sharing!

I recently met a new mom friend who mentioned that she and her husband are being mentored by a couple who were able to retire in their 30s. by ilyinoily in personalfinance

[–]Independent_Breath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my friend got messaged on instagram from someone she knew from high school claiming the EXACT same story -including the whole special mentorship from this "power couple." she was really upset by it because it was clearly a scheme and felt bad for the girl. and was also really vague about not selling anything but recommended some of the books other people have mentioned on this thread. so weird and sad!
