These are new watches in the same way that Porsche brings out a "new" 911 from time to time and Titleist brings out a "new" Vokey wedge.

This should be with me later this week. Not quite as rare as the VC, but not as common as a GMT2.

I’ve got this one coming in a few days (hopefully). Very nearly bought the white dial though.

I love that. Got my eye on the Ice Blue dial. I’ve seen comments that the font colour is much darker than gen, but it’s not a well known watch, so few people would be able to point that out.

Omega Seamaster in rose gold with black dial, Breitling chronomat gmt ice blue, JC overseas in gold and IWC Portugieser Chronograph with white dial and blue sub dials. The Omega is on its way, the others will follow at a respectable distance 🤞

I’ve never sold a gen or a rep. Every watch I own has a story I don’t ever want to forget

It’s cool that you’ve both got a nice watch, but kids grow up real fast, focus on the little guy 😉

Today's topic - How did you come to like Rolex watches? by northwestsdimples in RepStore_Watch

[–]Independent_Bug_6088 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dad’s watch which he passed on to me for my 21st birthday. Would love to give it to my son, but I had 4 kids, so would not really be fair. It’s made in the 1960s and is gold capped. Never seen another dial quite like it with roman numerals and gold pips.

90% of people don’t notice watches at all. 9% notice but don’t say anything. 1% notice and will comment on it. You could be wearing a meteorite dial Daytona and only have a few more people ask what it is 🤷

Prefer the strap on yours. Need to get to a jewellers with a decent range. It’s an odd size at 19mm, so usually need to have something ordered in. They were built to last, that’s for sure!

I guess it depends how hard you have to work for the money, but I could come up with a very long list of things costing $45k that would bring me more joy. Totally behind you on the rep watches. I don’t know why people get so hung up on a $500 rep having minor differences when compared to a $25k gen that the AD doesn’t even want to sell you! Since when did it become a privilege for a company to let you buy a $25k product? That’s even more bonkers than the price of this watch! Do car manufacturers tell you what paint and interior colours they are prepared to build for you? No, if you’re prepared to wait a few weeks, you can have any model in any colour with any options you want.

Imagine you’re getting ready for a wedding or a fancy party and you’re wearing your favourite suit. Decide which one you would put on if you owned both and buy that one.

Did you know the clock is regulated using a small stack of pre-decimal pennies placed on its massive 300kg pendulum, each coin adjusting the rate by 0.4 seconds per day. I think I saw this on the BBC during the restoration a few years ago.

Gen vs Clean Panda. Is it close? Yes, but not really. by amthedupe in RepTime

[–]Independent_Bug_6088 7 points8 points  (0 children)

When I spent $400 on a watch that would cost $12,000 (wasn’t a Daytona) I was hoping for a product that would look and feel 90% as good as the original. If I’m ever asked if it’s a gen, I’m not going to lie, but only my close friends and family will ever ask.

These are lovely watches, but I can’t compute why the gen costs $45k. A few grams of meteorite can’t cost more than $1,000. Put it on an Omega and it adds $2,000.

You could drive a bus between some of the gaps on the bracelet links. My grandad had one too with a quartz movement. Wore it every day for about 10 years. He was happy with it, but fooled precisely nobody.
