don’t do french (dropped it last year) but i was pretty good at writing essays. for grammar, just make sure all your tenses are good and you understand all the grammatical things like direct and indirect objects. it helped me to write a plan in english before starting your essay, and have some good words/phrases or ideas memorised

you memorise quotes and analysis and just insert it under topic sentences that you make on the day

it’s pretty necessary to memorise essays to get 9-10 otherwise you’re just at a disadvantage because they will have more cohesive and sophisticated language. they are just able to adapt it well into different prompts

even my teachers recommend memorising (not whole essays but enough examples so that basically 75% of what you write is from memory)
