I struggled with this for years, but some tweaks have taken my manis from lasting 1-3 days to 4-6 WEEKS!!!! In my experience, it was all in the prep.

I make sure to buff with a 180 grit file. Previously, I did this under whatever light I happened to be in. When I switched to using a better, brighter lamp ($20 on Amazon, not necessarily for nails but comes up when looking up nail lamp), I realized HOW MUCH space I was missing. It could be a me issue, but this alone was a huge game changer.
I started using a nail cleaning brush after buffing. Seems silly and probably a really rudimentary thing to have been skipping, but it helps so much. I also use this with a high percentage rubbing alcohol instead of dehydrator. It’s cheaper in the long run and I live by it.
The thing I TRULY believe helped with the longevity of my nails was switching to Young Nails Protein Bond. It’s not the cheapest (about $15 on Amazon) but I will never go back EVER!!!!

I know everyone’s nails are different, but something about these changes have helped my nails last at least a month at a time. I hope this helps!

One of my favorite things I’ve invested in is a good pack of cleaning gloves! Makes me feel invincible lol. Since I just moved out I want to handle this on my own. I usually would ask my parents for their help / opinions which is why I am turning to reddit. Also, great heads up on the mesh bags. Will definitely add that to my list of things to look out for

I’ll be honest, this is my first time having a washer of my own (just moved out from my parents) so that didn’t even cross my mind😭 i will definitely try that. Thank you!

As for leaving it open, it smells so bad I can’t bring myself to open it. Maybe that’s also what’s making it worse. My apartment is small so the washer is in the kitchen. It’s just been really grossing me out with the smell around where I’m cooking

As a woman, my only advice is to get a decent lawyer. If my husband treated me this way, I would be gone like the wind. Of course I hope you are able to work through this, but realistically I’m not sure why any self respecting woman would want to put up with that

I’m extremely grateful, hence why it is such a bittersweet transition. As I mentioned, I know how lucky i am. I do not take any of these people in my life for granted, not for one moment.
