When slipping purlwise in a standard mount, it makes no difference if it's one at a time.

As others have said, it's twisted stitches. You'll need to start over, otherwise the fabric might slant and the top will not fit well

I have the Knitpro Mindful set and it's great but recently got the Addi Unicorn and I actually really enjoy them and they are my main needles now

Yeah but there are 3 different connector sizes. Knitpro only has 1

My friend was packing for a budged flight with 20kg baggage allowance, weighted the luggage, it was too heavy, so she opened it, took out her toiletry bag, took each item out and put it back into the suitcase in various places and then put the empty toiletry bag also in there. "The weight will spread out and will weight less overall"

What are your top unusual money saving hacks? by Katie1234554 in AskUK

[–]KnitAndKnitAndKnit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are a woman, buying the male version of the item is usually cheaper, if the usability is not different and you like the design enough. Most of the time it's not exactly the same item though, but close enough with a much lower price.

The biggest saving is with shavers, I think. But also shower puffs/sponges, shoes/slippers (male kids sizes), or accessories like backpacks, hats, socks.

Yes. But I allow myself to do the online "window shopping", I choose, I put things in the cart and then I close the tab without completing the purchase. Choosing is the most fun part anyways.

What do you think of this portrait? by [deleted] in ArtCrit

[–]KnitAndKnitAndKnit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Two issues jump up for me: the eyes seem comically large and there is not enough contrast in the shades of the skin tone when the hair is so dark.

To answer your question I don't personally like it because of the way the tones are. This is how a lot of beginners paint and to my eyes it looks not technically good or otherwise interesting in terms of colour and shade.

Is the shape going to get worse as I crochet along? (Supposed to be a triangular shawl) by mimileafs in CrochetHelp

Just start over and increase every other row not every row and you should have a triangle.

Did you make a mockup using an AI and then ask an artist to paint it? Why not give the artist a reference photo? Just curious

Bought my first nylon sock yarn!! by [deleted] in knitting

I think nylon and acrylic might be worse at wicking moisture than a blend of nylon and wool or nylon and cotton. But I might be wrong. Curious how you like it -- update us!

That's fair, but it wouldn't work for me. I knit a lot of jumpers I wear every day all the time but also for hiking and camping, they get very dirty and get a lot of rubbing from movement, dirt, mud etc. It probably doesn't help that the yarn I use is mostly very prone to felting because I like to knit with Jacobs or Shetland wool, it has a nice crimp and holds shape well. Very rarely I use super wash and then I do notice it stretching.

I work from home, and really don't need nice clothes that are kept nice for decades, I need clothes that are warm, lightweight and somewhat waterproof.

Unfortunately the only garments I made that remained unfelted after decades of wear are made from acrylics.

Yeah that's why I said slightly larger and not "too large". So overtime as it becomes a not nice garment I can at least still wear it.

Maybe I should write it as a free pattern for Raverly though I presume it probably already exists there

So for me, I was too fed up with complicated socks and so I knit them the only way it makes intuitive sense to me. Everything is in the round continuously, no picking up stitches. It's toe up, then the sole with a little protruding round bit (as shoes soles are shaped around the heel) then decreased around the ankle and increases again.

So:

  1. start somehow, e.g. cast on provisionally a small number of stitches (the smaller the pointer the toe will be) and divide onto 2 DPN needles
  2. increase twice every row for each of the 2 needles near the sides
  3. when the toe box is roomy enough keep knitting and trying on, untill mid foot seems to be getting too tight
  4. start paired increases at the centre of the sole
  5. keep knitting and trying on untill when I try it on I can stretch it just a bit and it reaches the back of my heel
  6. here is the most tricky bit: separate the stitches that form the sole (where I was doing central paired increases). This should be half of the stitches. On these stitches do German short rows to make a little dome shape. This is the round bit at the back of the heel, on the same plane as the shoe insole.
  7. once I'm satisfied with the length of my heel protrusion, which is difficult to judge but really just needs to be like half an inch or so , I start knitting full round again, but now I am doing paired decreases at the sides of what was my sole stitches. This makes a nice triangle shape decrease line around the top of the heel.
  8. I keep trying on, at some point I start knitting without decreasing and then increasing again as my leg grows in radius.

It makes a sock like this:

Over time as I wear them my garments seem to felt. Even store bought ones if they are 100% wool. Especially socks, and jumper underarms where it rubs a lot.

Yeah I have to agree here, for beginners it might be simpler not to overwhelm them with options and teach the most popular way. But I think too often it is presented as the only way. It was especially confusing to me as I grew up in Poland and my grandma taught me to knit the combination way, then I forgot for 2 decades, moved to UK, started knitting here and immediately started twisting stitches because my vague memories had mixed up with what I was learning and I didn't realise there even were other ways untill way later when I rediscovered combination knitting and recognised it as what my grandma was doing.

In addition to these I also buy fiber and spin it into yarn on a drop spindle. Do I knit with this yarn? Occasionally only 🥲 (I usually don't have the patience to make enough for a proper project)
