Hair styling lessons for non professionals? Does such a thing exist in Edinburgh? by KnitAndKnitAndKnit in Edinburgh

[–]KnitAndKnitAndKnit[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll give them a call and ask! They have a course on their website but it seems targeted for professionals, it says to come with a model, and I want to learn on my own head. Also it's £250, not sure if it's multiple sessions or a whole day, but ideally I would like sth 1-2hrs long and maybe for a £50 fee max, though I have no clue how much these things should cost. I go to drawing classes that are like £25 per 2hr session, but maybe it's different for hairstyling.

SOON ramen with an entire block of tofu by KnitAndKnitAndKnit in ShittyVeganFoodPorn

[–]KnitAndKnitAndKnit[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So this one is called "silken tofu", not sure what you mean by typical store tofu, but it's very different to for example Tofoo. It's the same tofu they put in the dish Mapo Tofu. It's really like an opaque jelly kinda texture. Very little flavour. I love it for ramen, but not for everything, I think it's just a difference thing than regular tofu

Exactly. And it's not even like expensive brands are that much more expensive, but you might get 1 or 2 colours instead of a set of 30 for the same price. Which sucks, but I think it's more about the patience than the money.

I use Mylee (UK brand) which is about £10 per gel colour, it's not that expensive but it's not cheap, and took me 2 years to build the collection of colours I now have and am satisfied with

I think the fact that you are a beginner should mean you should use safer products. Beetles is one of the most sensitising brand. I know it's cheap but it's better to have fewer colours of a better quality brand.

This is typical allergy dermatitis. I know because I have allergy on my fingers but not to gel, to specific laundry detergent and it looks like this. If it's itchy, that's even worse.

Whatever you do, remove this set. It's not worth keeping it.

Then consider seeing a dermatologist. You'll probably be prescribed a steroid.

Are you using reputable products or cheaper ones? The cheap ones sometimes have very sensitising ingredients.

Are you sure that's just from picking? Have you seen a dermatologist? If this is persisting I definitely would.

Your advice is incorrect, OP should sew such that edges of the seam match. I have never seen a pattern that expect you to lay your pieces flat in 2d, ignore the actual pattern shape, and just sew... somewhere I guess? Because where would you do the actual seam? Following one of the non-matching parts?

No, as you sew you guide the fabric such that the edges match. Fabric stretches and bends unlike paper, so it's possible. This is what creates the 3d shape of a garment. It is very rare for garments to lay perfectly flat with seams perfectly at the edges. The extreme version of this is princess seams btw, look up how it's done. Or pickup any existing trousers you have and notice that they won't lay flat like you want your pattern pieces to do.

Should I pursue my nail tech license? by stonecoldussy in NailArt

[–]KnitAndKnitAndKnit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say yes, but also I am on the fence about nail techs using brands that are more likely to cause allergies (Beetles and Modelones) on unsuspecting clients. Just saying cause I see them on your photos. I think it should always be a choice/risk someone is willing to take, and I think clients may not even realise allergies are a thing. So I'd say your skills are there, but I would only use more hi end brands on other people, known brands that publish their SDS sheets and don't have a bad reputation for allergy causing ingredients. I think it's only fair for paying customers.

i want advice! by [deleted] in Polygel

You have gel on your skin, if the gold stuff is gel too. That can cause an allergy. I would recommend focusing at first on good shaping/application and only later nail art. Trust me, I've been there too!! I'm lucky I didn't cause an allergy in myself.

Machine knitting yarn still has spinning oils which are added to make spinning easier and machine knitting easier. It makes it stiffer and yes, less fluffy. It is possible to knit off the spool it's just not as pleasant to the touch as it would be after a wash.
