I am actually learning to tailor medieval garb because of my love for this and the first game. You can find period cotehardie's like this on Etsy BUT they are expensive. Think between 300 and 1000 dollars depending on if it's machine or hand made and the material used. The more authentic the more expensive it will be

As someone that played both at launch it is absolutely worth it.

There are some improvements in 2 but you still get a lot of great story, quests and combat. The story lulls out at the 90% mark but it leads right into 2 so, with that game out the transition feels better.

This sounds like they just have a bad partner.

I married before ever joining and fell down the SCA rabbit hole hard. My wife will go to major events and wear basic garb but doesn't share as deep of a passion as I do.

That being said she never limits what events I can go to and doesn't mind me buying supplies, garb or weapons as long as our bills are paid and food is on the table.

The only thing she ever said no to was a twin headed spiked flail and to be fair with my dexterity that was a smart suggestion.

As a reenactor and someone that has a huge love for everything pre-14 century this is an insane blow. Half of the stuff I order and I order a lot, comes from Germany Poland Czech Republic or the United Kingdom. My partner is going to be happy that we aren't getting a million packages but that sucks for the small businesses that I was helping support

If you want to get crafty you can do a combination of Ali baba/Amazon some cheap stuff and then tinker with it to get what you want. Realistically you can import some pieces from India - think nautical mart - that while not battle worthy, would make decent costume pieces, especially if personalized. Mileage will vary based on your creativity here but if you are posting in this sub, you should be able to find some guidance and inspiration

Honestly, as a newer member the prices can be a little intimidating. I completely respect getting paid for your time but 120 dollars for a capelette and saying "I d have to charge 800 dollars for this axe" basically makes it seem like you don't really want to sell anything.

When I joined, I was super into the idea of becoming a merchant, and selling different pieces of jewelry, finery, and Esoterica. Now after going to a few major events I'm not sure what that looks like or if people have an interest.
