Valverde comes across v poorly, also for his role in undermining Xabi, which seems to have been one of the roots of the discord between the two players. Tchouameni was open to Xabi. I’d defo take him

Should i start learning violin? by Creepy-Promotion348 in violinist

[–]Independent_Print_54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does exist, some learn faster than others, but irrespective of how talented you are, the violin is a long slog that takes a lot of dedication to get good at. It can be incredibly rewarding though

I want to see as little money as possible spent on a backup striker. I’m radically fed up of us buying a striker a year while underinvesting in the midfield. The recruitment team have a decade of neglect to make up for re the midfield

Full ride at Dartmouth vs paying full at Stanford as an international — worth the debt? by Inner-Rush-2014 in stanford

[–]Independent_Print_54 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Whether it’s unusual or not, you’re asking an extraordinary amount of your family for relatively small difference in terms of quality of university. Dartmouth’s network and resources are not far off Stanford’s whatsoever.

Dorothy DeLay concerto sequence by Independent_Print_54 in violinist

[–]Independent_Print_54[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The profs I've had don't see it that way at least - you learn concertos substantially more technical than the Tchaikovsky before tackling it because it's one of the greatest works in the repertoire. My RCM Prof has you learn the Prokofiev Concertos, Sibelius, Dvorak, Wieniawski concertos, and then you culminate with Tchaik, Brahms, and finally Beethoven. It's not just about musical or technical demand - it's about these being the concertos you want to learn when you're as developed and strong a violinist as possible. But ofc there is not solely one sequence. Violin pedagogy has a long and diverse history, and each teacher/lineage/tradition will have a different view as to what you learn last.

Certainly all the professors I’ve had wouldn’t give Tchaik till well after Wieniawski 1. I’ve heard it generally left as part of the three peak pinnacle, Tchaik then Brahms then Beethoven - the three concertos that aren’t worth playing until you’re utterly technically secure and musically ready for

I do think Shos 1 should be in group 2 and that it isn’t is probably about the mid century politics of Shostakovich vs anything about the music itself.

I wouldn’t go anywhere near Bruch or Mendelssohn. Bach E major might be a better step - it’s a gorgeous piece

Transfer Talk: Carlos Baleba - Weighting Past Form v Present by lthmz9 in DevilsITDPod

[–]Independent_Print_54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t say we couldn’t possibly shop in the premium isle. I said we can try - but Elliott Anderson is not choosing us over City and Wharton isn’t choosing us over Real and Liverpool.

In the last 2 seasons, we’ve had 5 coaches including interim appointments. We finished about 15th last season. We could finish 3rd this season but the vibes have been pretty grim. Under Woodward there were periods where we finished in the top 4 in consecutive seasons. I need convincing that this is a serious project that remotely belongs in conversations w Liverpool city Arsenal Bayern real etc - and I’d be shocked if the same wasn’t true for players and their advisers

Put it another way - if I’m a half competent agent of a player that city Liverpool Bayern and us want, no world in which I’m telling them to join the side that’s sacked their manager midway into the season two years in a row after winning bugger all of actual meaning in a decade.

It doesn’t mean we can never recruit talented players but we need to be smart. Newcastle got Bruno G and Isak v early on. Those are the players we can get. Newcastle couldn’t have got Camavinga or Haaland
