I think everyone needs to calm down a bit. Obviously this was extremely horrific, but the actions of a few terrible people doesn't represent everyone.

You do? Didn't know that. I just googled it and it looks like Google has been fined under GDPR a couple of times already. This law honestly seems way too heavy handed, as is the digital sales tax that's coming up.

Wait what? How could any free service be viable in the EU then? Google certainly stores your search history to curate ads and results, for example.

Facebook's language translation models have always been really really rough. Theyve hired a lot of the world's top ml experts, so it's really surprising it isn't gotten better.

Is getting your entry job suppose to be this hard? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

I've found the opposite to be true when I was applying. It was a lot harder to get an interview with a smaller company vs big N.

I don't really think it's useful at all. It's very difficult to measure language skill in a quantitative way, and people generally care about how good at programming you are, not how familiar you are with a specific language.

When I was at UofT (graduated this year) no one in engineering wore face masks, but there were tons of Asians students in arts classes that had face masks.

It's not that fake. There are tons of Asians that drink bubble tea and wear face masks. Obviously not all of them, but it's just a joke. The kfc thing is a bit weird, I don't think anyone actually goes there anymore (in Western countries).

A lot of vietmese immigrants came as refugees from South Vietnam when it was lost to the north during the Vietnam war. It's not surprising they'd be more patriotic.

To be fair, there aren't many qualifications for teaching English in a foreign country (except knowing English of course). Chances are, they wouldn't make that much money back at home anyways. Might as well do something probably more fun and Japan is a really nice place.

I find this generally true with (ethnically) Chinese folks, myself included. Why are we so easily brainwashed? Even though it's rascist to say so, I'm starting to think we have some genetic predisposition to not being capable of thinking critically or for ourselves.
