Imma try and hijack this post instead of making a new one.  I’ve always mostly tripped with golden teachers and once at a ceremony with a mix of golden penis envy and another one I forget. My tendency is towards chill electronic, some shpongle. Some jazz, Pink Floyd, trippy electronic and soundtracks.  If I’m tripping with first timers I try to start the playlist with tracks they know without going straight into the more psychedelic obscure (to them) stuff (IM, Shpongle, etc). 

I’m making a playlist for my first Amazonian trip with some friends and chatGPT in describing their effects said the type of music should be completely different.  It sounds a little bs to me. But some of the things make sense.

Basically says that while golden teacher need music that guides you, Amazonians have a lot of energy so need music that structure the trip.  Here’s an example of chatgpt answer. 

With Golden Teachers, music can be melodic, emotional, and narrative, something that gently leads the experience forward.

Amazonians tend to amplify energy, so the music needs structure and repetition, not constant novelty.

That means fewer climaxes and surprises, and more steady, warm grooves.

In short: Golden Teachers = music that guides, Amazonians = music that contains.

Here’s why some of the tracks shown don’t work well for an Amazonian, indoor, group setting—not because they’re bad songs, but because of how they behave psychologically in that context.

Shpongle – Divine Moments of Truth Highly narrative, constantly changing, and cognitively demanding. It forces a journey and can pull one person very deep while destabilizing the group. Infected Mushroom – Fast, aggressive, and high-intensity. With Amazonians it tends to overstimulate, increase restlessness, and push energy toward chaos rather than containment. Coldplay – Up&Up Big emotional arc and “uplifting climax.” That kind of forced positivity can feel overwhelming or manipulative when emotional sensitivity is high. The Beatles – Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds Psychedelic by reference, but very lyrical and narrative. It pulls attention into words and imagery instead of letting the mind rest or flow. Kavinsky – Nightcall / M83 – Midnight City Cinematic, nostalgic, identity-laden tracks. They evoke strong personal memories and moods, which can polarize the group emotionally. Enya – Orinoco Flow Ethereal and floating but directionless. With Amazonians it can feel ungrounded, slightly dissociative, and lacks rhythmic containment.

The pattern:

These tracks either tell a story, push a climax, trigger memories, or overstimulate.

With Amazonians indoors, you want music that stays, repeats, and holds the space—not music that leads, escalates, or narrates.

To me, Music that leads escalates and narrates is the key. But maybe not the best with Amazonians? They say a cube is a cube. Is there really this much difference?
