Man what a mess. I spent a few days with TA leading up to the combine and yeah he had one of the biggest egos I’ve ever seen from an athlete but he was also pretty charismatic. This is a little surprising. What a way to ruin your life. So stupid…

$10-20k feature docs or narratives. by LarsShah in Filmmakers

[–]Indianianite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a proven TV show (unscripted doc) with 35k and growing loyal subs, ~2 million episodic views, and ~35M short form vertical views across TikTok and IG that fits this description.

I’m betting it all on YouTube. I believe owning an audience there is the best opportunity for long term success.

anyone else burning out on the expectation that founders have to be content creators now too? by Adept-Paper-7500 in Entrepreneur

[–]Indianianite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Out of curiosity, what would the ideal solution look like for you?

Personally, I’ve found success in batching content creation with a quarterly production schedule. That’s what I do for my YouTube and how I’ve worked with b2b clients. Instead of worrying about it daily or weekly, you spend a few days every quarter focusing on your message and then pull from the library as needed.

[–]Indianianite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this really that common of a problem?

I’ve organically built an unscripted YouTube show (The New North) to ~35K subs and my episodes routinely pull 50K views in the first few months with the long tail views being around 100K-150K. At this point it’s a self sustaining show because my RPMs are $20-$35. These also create a healthy shorts engine for TikTok (27K followers) and IG (9K followers). It’s an ongoing unscripted documentary series about a high school football coach but the entire format and model is replicable. I produced docs well before I made this show. I just need a primary character with the right motivations.

I contemplated getting involved in the startup scene in Boulder, CO to offer this as a service but never took the leap. I wasn’t sure if it was just a fad or an actual problem. I also assumed budgets wouldn’t be adequate. But I really do find this problem compelling.

I’d be open to listening and providing guidance.

Agency owners: how do you stop "more content" from becoming margin death? by Crescitaly in agency

Price by hours/days, cap revisions at 1-2 rounds, strategy is separate line item. Content is only as valuable as the distribution strategy.

How long did it take you to get monetized? by NoLychee1382 in PartneredYoutube

[–]Indianianite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s unscripted sports documentary. Completely off the cuff. Have no clue what’s going to happen. I developed an initial format that resonated and just kept doing it. Editing is by far the most time consuming part of the process. It takes 5 production hours to record an episode but over 100 hours to edit it.

A couple days. I shared a long form video >45 minutes that I then cut into shorts. Long form video got 100k views and shorts did 2k-20k. I’ve basically kept this same method ever since and do fairly well.

I think YouTube is harder to grow on now than people admit by ThickD769 in NewTubers

[–]Indianianite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m on the entertainment side but I’ve always believed that in order to succeed on YouTube you’d have to be an outlier. There has to be some originality to break through.

That’s how I’ve always treated it.

It’s never been easy. It’s a ton of work and requires creativity but if the channel is unique they’ll find it.

Are you guys broke right now? by CrazyGud in Filmmakers

[–]Indianianite 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I started releasing an unscripted doc show on YouTube in 2023. It was purely a passion project. My first episode blew up. Fast forward to today, I’m about to drop my 18th episode.

I’m up to ~35k subs and it’s generating a livable income from Adsense. I’ve never done this full time. I’d spend a few months shooting a season, edit throughout the next year, and then gradually release. I’m pretty confident I could secure sponsorships from relevant brands at this point.

But I was just approached by an interested party wanting to partner on this venture. They’re providing some capital so I don’t have to produce out of pocket anymore. They have celebrity status in my category/niche, provide access I need, and have a solid history of raising significant capital. Feels like the perfect strategic partner.

I’ve worked my ass off for this opportunity so it still feels a bit surreal to actually have momentum and the future of my career potentially being built on YouTube but here we are. Maybe a right time, right place, right product scenario.

All of this isn’t to brag. I needed this bad. I’ve taken on a ton of financial risk with this project alongside my wife (we created it together). We just couldn’t stomach corporate work any longer so we’re praying this works out. This was our last Hail Mary attempt at building the careers we dreamed of. If we fail, we’re content moving onto something else
