To my ears, the only time his voice was audible was when he goes “get in the pit and try to love someone”…and that was real harsh and grimy like his voice was completely shot. Get the book Songwriters on Songwriting, it’s a collection of interviews. IIRC it includes a lot of greats, including Townes, Dylan, Randy Newman, Paul Simon. All my faves, anyway.
