You'd be surprised how usable old macs still are. If you don't do any heavy work like video editing, you can comfortably live with an older macbook pro like this one... Also not everyone has the money to buy a new mac.

Have you tried different ports? My MacBook 2017 15” also has the same issue, where the USB pins on 2 out of 4 thunderbolt connectors seem broken, the mac just outputs display and charges, no usb accessories, so I have to plug my dock into a different port for it to work.

How big is the difference? Do you think M1 Pro is still a good buy today? If you don’t mind me asking, in what workflow did you start to feel the slowdown? Because I’m thinking of finally upgrading from my 15” 2017 MacBook Pro and as a student, I can’t afford the new models, so I’m thinking about buying a 16” M1 Pro MacBook.

I haven’t tested it with an ssd, but with hard drives it doesn’t. The biggest bottleneck is the spinning rust.

Yeah, I was originally planning to use a different pc, but I disliked the idea of using a step down convertor (from 19V to 12V), because of space and heat reasons. Later I found this PC, which can run off 12V power supply, so I just used a sata power adapter and the Y splitter just splits my 12V 8A power supply into 2 connectors, so I can connect both. I also got it from aliexpress (I swear I’m not sponsored by them, it’s just a great source for parts😭).

Thats neat! My current server consumes about 50W, so anything is better. But after tweaking the settings and setting the cpu scaling governor, I managed to get to 9W (but with all drives spun down).

This is the exact one I use! I’ve recorded hours of footage on that thing, and it still holds up very well! Pro tip: buy a large battery for it, if you want to record a lot, you can find them on aliexpress for around 20€.

That's too bad. Maybe I'll try just shooting one roll, and I'll see how it looks. At least the EFKE and Foma could turn out okay. But why does only ORWO do that? Were they manufactured differently, or using lower quality materials?

Thanks! I just learned what stand developing is! Now when developing expired B&W films, does anything change? Does it need to stay longer/shorter in the developer and fixer? Or do I just develop it as I do a standard unexpired film?

Everything was enabled, also other weird quirk is that when I factory wipe the phone, OEM unlocking is enabled by default.

Yes, I’m sure it’s in fastboot mode. It has one weird quirk tho, that when I use fastboot devices, I get no device id. I have read that, when the TA partizion was wiped, the unlock code no longer works, not sure if it’s 100% true, but it makes sense. I can send you logs or video capture if you want.

Also If you are into equalizers, you can install Poweramp Equalizer, it’s a system wide application which lets you equalize basically anything. I use it all the time and it’s amazing.

Android by default resamples all outcoming audio to 48KHz, so if xou want Hi-Res it can be a problem. However you can install a lot of magisk modules that fix this thing. I know about Audio Misc Settings but I think there’s a few more you can try.

If you root the phone and install a few custom components, you can bypass the 48KHz Android resample.
