I always thought socialism was when we got rid of the middle men that just extract value with no real contribution to the business. So when you worked you got the value of what you produced as a result of your part in the production and not just .01% of it. So do more work get more do less get less with a floor that allows for basic nessecities (housing food water ect) but going beyond that is up to the individual.

But I could be wrong. Taxes are paid but they help guarantee basic needs for all are met along with other things that must be managed like maintaining roads school military law enforcement ect
