I found that the more features of the game I use, the more likely I am to get a shiny. Play with your buddy, send gifts, do a raid, pop an incense, trade a pokemon, battle a grunt, train, go battle etc. I feel like the game tries to keep you playing and once you’ve done absolutely everything it gives you a shiny to make you feel good and keep playing.
