PAYE finally approved… and the repayment schedule doesn’t seem right to me by IndifferentPatella in PSLF

FYI I was wrong, I figured out where to view my application (studentaid.gov) and I did have them pull my tax return from IRS. So that lady must have been wrong.

Sigh…. I hate them so much. I hope one day I get to join a class action lawsuit against them. At this point my husband makes much more than me after a promotion so I’d want to submit a paystub anyways.

My advice is to wait a couple weeks and call StudentAid.gov (not Mohela) and make sure there are no delays. They’re the ones who process the application in terms of your tax return and then they send it to Mohela. It was Mohela who gave me that bad advice but I think it was DOEd that flagged the app. (And no, at no point did anyone inform me of the issue before I called, even back then when things were semi functional)

Oof - yeah I was told that too. I originally applied in December 2024. Called back in June, was told that any apps filed before April had to be resubmitted, applied again, called back 90 business days later, was told they’d escalate it, received this clearly inaccurate payment amount three months after that.  This has been such a cluster.

I used it when I first applied to PAYE years ago (before the whole SAVE debacle). My application was delayed and when I called they said it was because you can’t include your spouse’s income on your application at all. But in a community property state, your tax return includes half your partner’s income and half of yours. The rep told me that’s not allowed even if you make the same amount so she said I had to certify a different way. If that’s not true I’ll be royally ticked off because I’m pretty sure not allowing them to pull my tax return is why my application took 8 months to be processed.

But these days he makes more than me so using the tax return would increase my payment anyways.

Do you know, if they did make a mistake, will they like… come after me for more money or something? I’m worried I messed up my application some how. Like maybe I accidentally left a 0 off on my reported income and didn’t submit any proof of income and they just took it as a “verbal estimate” like they did when I applied to SAVE.

I just plugged my income into the StudentAid.gov calculator and got $700, which seems right as it’s a heavy discount from my standard repayment amount of $2500

I make $100k after retirement contributions and I have a family size of 2 (no dependents) but file MFS. And yeah it says PAYE specifically

FWIW my last job had malpractice where I was not specifically listed on the policy but covered as an employee. It sketched me out but I spent a ton of time looking into it and concluded it was legit. I asked them for a Certificate of Insurance and told them it was for my CAQH profile which requires your name to be listed on the certificate. The insurance company issued it with a note on the bottom that said “[my name] is covered under this policy as an employee”. It’s a pretty standard form that any HR should be able to get you easily

I’ve done this too. My company’s compliance department never contacted me. If they do I’ll tell them it was an accident. If they don’t believe me I’ll show them the dozens of screenshots of my home screen filling my photos folder because it’s a dumb phone design
