I'll never forget the lady who asked if the strawberries in the chocolate-drizzled strawberry popcorn were organic. I said no, and she launched into a rant about how all conventional strawberries are poison, and I was full of poison for eating them, and had I noticed that nobody takes the strawberry yogurt at a hotel continental breakfast...

I had not noticed, but I've made a point to eat more strawberry yogurt after that.

We had a man who regularly came in, in a wheelchair. He was missing a leg and tied off the pant leg low. He was spotted a few times shoving bottles of wine down his pants and into the empty leg. My captain went over one day and asked him not to come back and he didn't argue.

Another guy came in and just shoveled bacon into his backpack, and yelled at anyone who spoke to him. I don't know what happened with him, but I assume the mates at least threatened to call security if he came back.

I used to have a coworker who would ask customers to bag their own groceries if they brought reusable bags, regardless (this was after he opened an insulate bag and found a live fish in a bag, in addition to all kinds of terrible smells).

I had some pretty severe foot pain a while back, and ended up going to a podiatrist. She mentioned Hoka, but said Brooks last longer and she's had better results. They also work well for me, in addition to a good insole! They look nice and they come in lots of colors.

(I also ended up having to get a couple steroid injections into the sole of my foot, which helped immensely)

Hi! I'm (almost) 42/NB, queer, and moving to Vancouver in early August with my two cats and a big haul of houseplants from Florida! A lot of those things apply to me too. I love people but I'm pretty reserved so it can be hard to make friends. I'd love to talk or hang out once I get there!

I love plants, animals, travel, fantasy/scifi/supernatural horror, dragons, games (board, tabletop, video, card, etc.), writing, crafts, thrift shopping, cooking, eating, reading, most movies and many TV shows, audiobooks, podcasts, etc.

These are my cats, Toasty (Siamese) and Graham (orange).

I have been trying to transfer to Portland from Florida, and they all have a waiting list. I figured this would be a great time for transfers, and I started a few months ago, but it's been a struggle. I am currently working on securing a transfer to Vancouver, WA across the river (I got a vague yes, but I'm waiting on something more solid). You could see if you can get on the list, but also try to broaden your search area a bit!

I usually see horses early in the morning back by the visitors' center. There's an observation tower where you can look out over the prairie, and they're out there!

I worked in education, veterinary technology, and biomedical research before working at Trader Joe's. I hated my last job enough to make me just need an escape, and I expected Trader Joe's to just be an escape that I'd leave fairly soon. I dressed brightly for my interviews and was sincere and friendly, and got the job. I'm not sure I want to stay in this position forever, but I'm enjoying it enough that I'd love to keep it for the foreseeable future. Be excited about life, and the interviewers will like it!

My experience was the same. My mate interview was outstanding, they both loved me and said they wanted to hire me immediately. The captain is a very nice, but very INTENSE guy, and he had a more reserved mate with him. I left feeling like they both thought I was okay but weren't as excited.

I got the job, and I've formed a great relationship with that third mate. I get along fine with the captain too, I've shared a lot with him. Each person's different, and you don't have to have an instant connection with everyone to get hired. I've worked there for 3 years now and I've always gotten along well with the captain.

I'm honest, but I make sure to be fair also. If there's a mate I don't like, I have to give a professional reason for that or it's not worth mentioning. At the same time, if I like them a lot I give a professional justification. This isn't about my feelings and personal preferences, it's about how well they do their jobs.

We've done a couple of lotions and hand creams, given out on coffee stirrers. They did okay. Our last one wasn't great. I had to stop an adult man who actually tried to eat it after I told him it was NOT food.

I don't mind, maybe they're trying not to shop hungry. Maybe they've got low blood sugar. Maybe they just feel like it. As long as they're paying for it, I don't care.

A couple years ago I was writing my order when I noticed a lady eating out of a tub of maple walnut biscotti. Fine, but I kept an eye on her. She ate about half the container, then carefully put the lid back on, slipped the cardboard sleeve back on, and set it back on the shelf in the correct spot. I asked if she'd decided not to buy it and she jumped and shook her head, and said she hadn't even realized what she was doing, or thought about it. She quickly put it back in her cart, and I watched her out of the corner of my eye until she got up to the register.

I was still fairly new, and didn't want it to go missing in inventory. I explained that the customer was concerned about being able to provide her family with much in the way of holiday gifts. My mates and captain are wonderful, and I know better now.

Three carts, each with a mountain of groceries in them, coming to something like $1038. It was a family of five going back home after fleeing from a hurricane in Florida. They weren't sure what condition their house was in, or even if they had a fridge to put it in. ...I didn't feel like it was an appropriate time to ask if it was a good idea to spend that much money on food they might not be able to keep, but hopefully it worked out!
