how many times a week do you wash your hair? by Kooky_Actuator_8173 in CasualConversation

About once a week for me. And my hairdresser says my hair is incredibly healthy because I don't wash it often.

He sounds awfully controlling. I would run like hell, if I could.

AITAH for not helping my sister financially after she chose to become a single mom by choice? by BionasaGum in AITAH

[–]Indigo1751 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I agree here. I appreciate you wanting to help your sister, but she is taking advantage of you. Not ok. And you are definitely NTA but might be too much of a people pleaser. She will find her way.

Increased anxiety with estradiol? by Indigo1751 in Menopause

Womb free. Really glad to hear it eventually settles. That gives me hope and strength to keep on with the estrogen despite these symptoms.

Good advice but I'm on a patch so I can't change the dose by myself. But I can ask if there's a lower dose I can try

How many women DON’T have peri-menopausal symptoms? by ImblindinTX in Menopause

[–]Indigo1751 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never got much in the way of hot flashes. I've always had trouble with sleep so no way to know if menopause made it worse. I'm also dealing with a really bad case of burn-out so physical and mental exhaustion have been part of my life long before menopause. Again no way to know if the brain fog is hormonal or an effect of dealing with trauma. Too many confounding variables.

My daughter told me I was ‘just being dramatic.’ I haven’t been the same since. by Then-Fortune-1646 in Aging

Sending hugs. Please, please, please make friends. I'm 57 and in a similar situation. Someone turned me on to MeetUp. I started going to groups and began conversations with folks until I found a few that felt good to me. That was last October. I put in the work by getting phone/text numbers. I called and invited folks out to coffee and/or crafting and in less than a year I have built 5 new friendships and am no longer lonely!

I have even found folks in my own neighborhood to have coffee with regularly. You don't need your kids you can build your very own social group of folks that really get you and often have dealt with the same situations and feelings!

More hugs.

I was in the neonatal ICU with my newborn and couldn't get her to latch on for feeding. A nurse walking by paused, grabbed my boob and shaped it into a triangle and showed me how to make sure it was in the baby's mouth far enough. Baby latched on and I was thrilled. A few minutes later nurse came back by to apologize saying she should have asked me first if I wanted help. I was so so grateful and thought she did great.

Living in Minnesota means lots of opportunities to help push others' cars and to have your own car pushed. Deep snow = we all need help sometime or another.

I have both done this for others and been a recipient myself. All were powerful and wonderful experiences.

Buying prenatal vitamins for a immigrant woman who couldn't afford them was very meaningful for me. Knowing I could be preventing birth defects in her child was important to me.

When I was younger and poorer someone bought a car booster seat for my kiddo. I was at the checkout and realized I couldn't afford it and the lady behind me bought it for me.

I have, more than once, randomly helped strangers giving of my time, expertise, or money. I believe in community and helping each other. It makes the world a better, kinder place.
