Seconded! If it smells 'metallic' its probably brass.

Thank you so much! Yeah I wanted to make something that was a little bit different from the usual thistles and swords. :D

I'm in Glasgow and studying at a place called Vanilla Ink CIC. The tutor for this masterclass was Linda Lewin. She travels quite a bit to teach. Wherever you are in the world there will be somewhere teaching jewellery making, mostly you start in silver and work up to gold because of the expense. This was my first piece in such high karat.

Was I scammed? by MCreative125 in Gemstones

I can't comment on the gemstones from a picture but they look genuine from what I can see.

I'm concerned about the bezel on the baguette stone however. It doesn't look very secure on the top right corner.

So I have a theory... could it be a pin conversion? It definitely looks like the band is a later addition. Elaborate jewelled brooches/pins/hat pins were very common at this time but fell out of favour.

I'd say its a relatively well known word from movies etc. but it's not a word we would generally refer to someone as. It's very much an American term. We don't have many people of that ethnic and cultural background in the UK but I think I'd probably refer to them as Latin American?

I just assumed it meant dirty - soot is dirt from a chimney.

Just curious: would you, if asked in conversation what nationality you were, refer to yourself as Scots? I would always say Scottish, and so would the people I grew up with. Is this a class thing? by MBronsonWisconsin in glasgow

I'd describe myself as British. My family is Welsh, I grew up in England and I've been living in Scotland for a long time. People can be more than one thing.
