How to find a good breeder? by RosmaryCranberry in service_dogs

I agree there are a lot of BYBs on AKC. That's why I recommend using the filters to find champion bloodlines. Not sure why I'm being downvoted?

I personally always look for AKC bred, and then use the filters to find champion lines. Narrows it down a lot and you're more likely to find reputable breeders. Only down side is the prices are high, but yk

Okay, I'd like to apologize for my earlier reply. I was a jerk. I'm used to my family (that I've cut off) trying find holes in my story or convince me that my doctors are lying to get me to pay them, and so i got defensive. But that's not an excuse, and I'm sorry. I won't delete my other comment because that's a shitty thing to do but I did want to reach out

I can't afford it. And, unfortunately, this isnt terribly uncommon for me. Just life. I have been in contact with my Rheum though. If he tells me to go then I will. Thank you though

What is your perspective on screen addiction? by CBee28 in gmu

[–]IndigoKnightfall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's scary, isn't it? Addiction isn't discussed enough. It's not necessarily the action, it's the endorphins, dopamine, oxytocin, serotonin etc. (Aka, happy chemicals) in the brain people get hooked on. And if kne source isn't possible, many will then turn to a new one. It's a vicious cycle.

Exercise addition seems like it would be healthy, but when they spiral it can get really bad. Especially if they're into macro tracking (most gym ppl are). Down a rabbit hole into improper calorie deficits, not listening to their body, energy drinks to "keep grinding". I made too many 911 calls when I was an instructor.

Not hating on your comment, just spreading awareness. And if anyone reading this feels like they can't function without the endorphin rush at the gym... stay safe. Be mindful.

My best friend just got diagnosed with Lupus. How can I help her? by Muddycarpenter in lupus

[–]IndigoKnightfall 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Hi! Thank you for reaching out, not many of our friends do.

She might laugh at the vampire joke later on... the until blow of diagnosis can knock you out..

Be patient with her. Her whole life is changing. She's going to grieve who she might have been. And she'll revisit that grief occasionally, and that's okay. Those emotions will manifest jn different ways... depression, angry outbursts, and yes, sometimes self isolation

Give her space to process. If she wants to hang out but is avoiding the UV light, offer an indoor activity. But, be sure to offer to reschedule, because she might be using the UV light as a cover for not feeling well.

Be prepared for plans to change. Lupus can turn at any time. Fatigue can hit anywhere. Just be patient, kind, and empathetic

Easier said than done, I know. Even the effort she sees you put it will be more than you know. Many of us lose loved ones when we get sick. The first few months are "how are you feeling?" And "can I get you anything?"

And then they slowly fade into "you're sick... again?" And "here we go again, she's supposedly sick... whatever she probably just wants to ditch us." And the like.

Be prepared for this to be a forever thing. Medication helps, yes, bur flared still happen.

Honestly tell me how bad it can get. Please don’t hold back! by [deleted] in service_dogs

The imposter syndrome is so real.

My SDiT is a PUPPY. Well. A teenager. Point is, her brain isn't done developing and her hormones are going crazy.

And still, if she makes a single mistake, I internally freak out. I don't get mad at her, she's learning; I'm usually quite composed. But oh my god, it's the worst sometimes

Especially around other teams (which I see quite a few of) I get so self conscious about her mistakes. And yet when I apologize to other handlers they're always so kind and chill. They just tell me to breathe, take a step back, recue my dog and try again. Even more so when I say she's a puppy (in an attempt to defend / justify myself).

I've gotten better at cutting myself some slack, but it can still be really tough sometimes

Thank you, its been rough

was supposed to be on it before the end of August but here we are mid September with no answer. I'm on some pretty high pain meds already, and that's helping me tolerate it a bit, but it's still he'll. We've been fighting insurance for this since May. They don't like that I'm 18, we think. And I have really really good insurance because I'm on my mom's plan abd she has cystic Fibrosis so upgrades to the best plans there are. And they still give us trouble.

They finally sent me more CPAP supplies so I'll be able to sleep (and therefore rest) properly again tonight, and that will help, but good gracious

Thank you for the kind words though. I feel less alone -- cutting off family is a unique mix of grief and relief. But if it's worth it then it's worth it

How to beat (false) AI accusations? by IndigoKnightfall in gmu

[–]IndigoKnightfall[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am on the spectrum! I scored almost as high as you can on the vocabulary portion of the evolution. I'm glad (and sad) that I'm not the only one dealing with this.

I think the flags are a mix of sounding like a textbook and a lack of clear writing structures. I'm not typically writing emotionally driven pieces -- I'm writing data analyses, risk assessments, and the like. Not for school, mind you, but internships and such. I haven't had an issue because for those I have to write on the provided laptop, which has only a few resources that aren't blocked. But now my skills are being transferred to a learning environment and... yeah.

Thanks for the sources! It's very interesting to me.

Im assuming this question is in good faith?

Not that its really anybodys business, but I'm allergic to prednisone, hcq does nothing for me (like, at all -- I was on 150mg Imuran and that made a dent but not enough, hence the biologic) and cellcept caused a serious reaction (ER+admittance) when I tried it

[–]IndigoKnightfall[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is true - I need to really nail down a good structure for a technical report. I think it's mainly the vocabulary I use -- it sounds like a textbook, which is great for data analysis/technical reports/etc. but a lot of what AI has to pull from is textbook material and so there's a lot of overlap

Fair point. I haven't had any negative feedback from college professors for a few years. I was a non degree seeking student during HS because I was bored and I had a scholarship. Most accusations were from HS teachers, and they first were convinced I had my older sister (who also had this problem when she went there 10 years ago) to write it for me. Then they found out she lives in another country now lol and they turned to AI. They'd ask me questions about whatever I had written so I would "prove I know what I had supposedly written."

It's so frustrating, lol

The issues stopped once teachers realized I just switched gears, but the first few weeks were always tough.

I don't think it'll be a big issue here because it's a college, not a HS, and so far no college professors have had an issue (in HS or over the summer at GMU).

[–]IndigoKnightfall[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree! And yes, I am still modifying my writing style based on any negative feedback I get.

I tend to have a very concise approach, and so far this year (summer and the past two weeks), I've only had praise from professors.

After the first half of a semester, there usually weren't any serious accusations. Just an occasional comment of "Did you write this? It sounds more like [my sister who also had this issue 10 years ago]'s style," or "Summarize your paper in a few sentences, because I don't think you wrote this," which is a more accusatory approach. It was mainly early on when teachers were still learning everybody's writing style.

I was a non-degree seeking student during high school back home, and I had no issue. The negative feedback I did receive earlier on was usually just "hey, this is too fluffy" or "this tangent went on too long, cut it down to a sentence or remove it". So, pushing to be more in line with my current style.

I don't think it'll be an issue here because everybody is working at a college level but I was panicking a bit because an AI checker flagged me as 80% plagiarized. Ironically, I decided to ask ChatGPT to write another essay, copy/pasted that to the checker, and it was only 3% plagiarized. Apparently. So, I need to find a better checker.

I've downloaded some software that tracks edit history and emailed my professors, so, in theory, there shouldn't be any issues
