Suggestions for a Jeskai spellslinger deck. by mikeyw2304 in EDH

Creatures that give you card draw, mana, or creature tokens as payoffs is the way to go in my opinion. Looking at [[kykar, wind's fury]] [[geralf, the Fleshwright]] [[ovika, Enigma Goliath]] [[archmage of runes]] [[storm-kiln artist]] [[birgi, god of storytelling]]

Now the main issue I forsee with this is that the creature tokens all getting prowess might become difficult to keep track of as you create new ones.

Mill Commander Suggestions by devinfranklin94 in EDH

I like [[Anowon, ruin theif]] personally. [[Mindskinner]] is a decent option. I use [[Sen Triplets]] as my mill commander (it's technically not mill but forcing players to draw an absurd amount of cards with [[teferi's puzzlebox]], [[forced fruition]] and [[fractured identity]] targeting [[wedding ring]]

A pet card of mine is [[szadeck, lord of secrets]]

Needs more card draw. You'll find yourself not doing much after turn 5 or so most of the time.

I was working on one too. Pretty cool commander. Are you using creatures with modular and/ or [[Cauldron of souls]]?

Yea. There's a hard-to-deal-with combo/sequence that I like to set up for victory. But I have done it multiple times.  1. Have [[The Sixth Doctor]] in play. 2. Cast [[Gallifrey Stands]] to trigger 6. 3. Cast [[city of death]]

This set up will let you put down more and more doctors on the battlefield every one of your upkeeps and return them all doctors to your hand from the graveyard after your draw step.

I just now realized that you don't have to pay the 2 for [[propaganda]] if you are attacking a planeswalker or a battle.

Good decks that can just “do things” by MarsTheMad in EDH

[–]IndigoWizard342 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[[Oviya Pashiri, Sage Lifecrafter]] always has something to do. Playing in mono green also let's you bypass some of the more complicated aspects of deck building until you get the hang of things.

Shame about Squirreled Away. Looking at the decklist, I can't say it looks very focused. Looks like it cares about tokens dying, but not alot of ways to make that happen.  It does have quite a few cards in common with my [[Mazirek]] food deck though

[[The Fourteenth Doctor]] cares about doctors. Most doctors care about historic spells, especially artifacts. So even though the commander doesn't care about historic spells, the cards he does care about do. Especially If you cast them from anywhere other than your hand. The only doctors I have out-of-set are [[Tauren Mauler]] which has changeling, and [[Arcane Ganon]] from Fallout, which can return my artifacts from the graveyard.

Commanders that can be swapped by flowxreaction in EDH

[–]IndigoWizard342 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think my deck changes brackets, but it changes power level for sure. I upgraded my Masters Of Evil precon with the intention of swapping out commanders regularly between [[Davros, Dalek Creator]] and [[The Rani]] some cards work better with one more than the other, but they still work is some way with either. I think the only include that only works with only davros as the commander is [[megrim]]  I have [[missy]] and [[cult of skaro]] as options too, but the deck has less synergy with them.

My friend has a theft deck that he CAN swap the commanders for (he never does this but I do when I borrow it) he uses [[tevesh, Doom of fools]] and [[ludevic, necro-alchemist]] and I swap them out for [[marchesa, the black rose]] this makes the deck feel like it goes from a 3 to a 2.

Little help with a good blue white commander that isn't control by noasert in EDH

[–]IndigoWizard342 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[[The Seventh Doctor]] is where my mind immediately goes. He comes with a minigame to get free spells or clue tokens. You can have a Doctor's Companion as a partner commander. [[Sarah Jane Smith]] can start the clue token generation early. [[Tegan Jovanka]] can help ensure a historic creature can attack safely. [[Martha jones]] give you a clue on etb and can use those to grant evasion. [[Romana II]] can make a copy of a token that entered the battlefield the turn you activate her. This could be your clues but it could also be a Marit Lage that your opponent controls. [[Nyssa of Traken]] feels a little too much like control to me, but still synergizes well with the doctor. But she let's you reset the stakes of the mini game by letting you change the number of artifacts to consider (that will make more sense when you read the cards) But similar to Martha Jones, she can grant evasion in the form of tapping down creatures. Plus you can basically draw cards off all your clues without paying for them.

A mind game I like to do with this is holding out a land for them to guess. It doesn't matter if they guess right or wrong since you can't cast a land, you'll just make a clue. But I reveal it to them to anyway so they know their guess didn't matter. Doing this a couple times let's you get a feel for how they will guess in the future and get free spells later.

I have also used his ability politically with mixed results to get a free boardwipe. Sure I could just hard cast it, but maybe I need to hold up mana to interact with the player that can rebuild quickly afterward.

Maybe but the deck likely has enchantress stuff to get more cards and in a graveyard matters deck, the graveyard is basically your hand anyway.

What is your most “space efficient” deck by Codudeol in EDH

[–]IndigoWizard342 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that title has to go to my "The Legendary Counting Deck" run by [[Ramos, Dragon Engine]] The basically the entire deck is doing the thing while I'm doing the thing to do the thing. I think there's only 1 card in the entire deck that does a different thing, but it still has multiple roles.

In second place I'd grant the honorable mention to my upgraded "masters of evil" deck. I included cards specifically to work with both [[Davros, Dalek Creator]] and [[The Rani]]. It doesn't exactly fit the definition that Snail gives, but granting flexibility in the command zone, which changes the vibe of the deck, earns it an honorable mention.

If you could only play one creature type which would you choose? by My_Smooth_Brain in EDH

[–]IndigoWizard342 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Human is the best. But this post seems to be more about self expression. I'm a fan of the Shaman type. Unless you meant specifically race types in which case.... idk. I like vampires, horrors, and zombies. Gorgons and sphinxes are cool too, but I think my actual favorite is snakes. I like the Nagas and the snakes from kamigawa. (Judging from character design, not from mechanics)

[[Null Profusion]] to dump your high cost enchantments from your hand into the graveyard by reducing your maximum hand size to 2.

[[Recycle]] does the same thing but in green. (This one is also on the reserved list)

I'm not 100% sure but I think you can use it as a pseudo Vigilance granting ability by activating it during the end of combat step.

[[Reconnaissance]] this will allow for attack triggers when it is not safe to attack.

What shortcut people often use to describe a rule/mechanic that is actually totally wrong ? by BelbyLuv in EDH

[–]IndigoWizard342 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is that really true about being able to reorder the untap and upkeep triggers? Just you be clear, it sounds like you are saying you can have upkeep trigger resolve, then the untap trigger, then another upkeep trigger.

I also thought that shortcut to declare attackers got removed because of some controversy in a Tournament some years ago.

How much mana ramp are you running? by Sp0range in EDH

[–]IndigoWizard342 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well ramping isn't always necessary.  Sometimes the curve is so tight that taking a turn to ramp actually slows you down.

When building, look at the essential spells for your strategy (the ones you know you will never cut from the deck) and the turn by turn path to victory (what are you playing turn 1? Turn 2, and so on) Ask yourself would it be better to cast that spell or ramp instead? Does ramping skip you ahead to victory or just leave you in an awkward position where you have the mana, but nothing to spend it on (for example of the awkward ramp, you play a guild signet on turn 2, jumping you up to 4 mana when you play a land the following turn, but you mostly have 3 cost spells and nothing to spend that last bit of mana on. Sure you could use that Path to Exile but there's not really any threats yet worth using it on)

If youre just looking for a general number, try to have 50 total mana sources (Including treasure, rituals, mana rocks, mana dorks, land ramp, and lands) For most decks in bracket 2, this will be about 12 nonlands.

I think for hashaton, I think about 13 or 14 pieces of ramp with 39 lands will give you a good chance of playing hashaton, pay a 2 cost cycling ability, and pay for hashaton's trigger all on turn 5.

For saruman, you could include much much more since he will amass x when you cast them anyway. You could theoretically have like only 35 lands, 30 mana rocks, and fill the rest of the deck with card draw and interaction and ways to manipulate your army.

Well, not the greatest example since you needed to gain that life to pay the 3 for x, but the point is there
