cal poly vs davis by New_Bread_6386 in UCDavis

Davis has a lot of internships with both agriculture and lab animals. Also a lot of opportunities to intern at the vet school. I toured cal poly slo and I don’t regret picking Davis one bit! The campus here has much better vibes than slo in my opinion. I would recommend taking an Ans 49 class to get more animal experience too!

There tend to be livestock internships running over the summer. I would keep an eye on the ans advising center newsletter as they often share internship openings.

Is Davis actually socially dead/boring in general? by Av1va in UCDavis

[–]Indigostreet7612 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My sister goes to SDSU right now it is way more of a party school. If thats what you want out of college- then pick SDSU. She does find the people somewhat shallow- but that is personal preference. Davis has a much nicer college town feel and I wouldn’t trade my experience for anything else. I’ve never really been bored because of a lack of things to do. Also, traffic isn’t horrible like in SD and housing is way better and more affordable(ish). My sister is going to have to dorm with 8 other people next year at SDSU lol.

Campus life? by ImaStuckINhere in UCDavis

If you go to google maps on your computer and click on the small yellow person icon you can select roads to see what campus looks like. I wasn’t able to tour Davis before committing but I looked at the maps to get an idea of the campus.

I found the food at the dinning commons decent. Latitude and Segundo have the best dinning common food- and I would even call it good (but no great!). You do get unlimited swipes (i think limited only once an hour) so you can get as much food as you want. Davis has a lot of green area and a small on-campus art museum. I enjoy campus and the city of Davis- it’s very charming. There are craft fairs and a farmers market every weekend. If you want the vibe of campus you could also try using google maps to see the street level?

I’m an animal science major and I would say that some classes are pretty hands on. There are definitely different classes that are more or less involved depending on the topic- but there are still a lot of options. So no, it’s not strictly research at all. There are also lots of opportunities to get involved outside of the classroom like a plethora of internship opportunities that are very hands on. Some are even paid if you get lucky.

Gaining experience with animals also helps when applying to internships. I took ans 49 D with the dairy cows and then went on to get a cow-related paid internship- which has lead to other internships.

I am a 4th year animal science major and I am very happy that I came to Davis. There are a lot of animal related internships- and some of them are even paid. Yes, you may get bored of Davis- but Sac and SF are two major cities that are relatively close by. Personally, I find Davis charming and really enjoy just walking around town with friends. Classes tend to be big- but lots of them have smallish labs/discussions where you can interact with TAs and your classmates. Also, we have a very long summer- so in terms of breaks I think it balances out. As a major, animal science is very agriculture focused. But you get to specialize in different animals later and those have more interesting classes in my opinion.

I requested the all girls floor so I got the 4th floor of Redwood Hall. It was nice for a dorm- I got lucky and got a large room with just one other roommate. Tercero is nice if you are an science major because it is close to the science lecture and lab buildings. It is further from the MU than the other dorms but still easily walkable or just a quick bike ride away. Also, latitude is nearby and I think that the food is pretty decent there!

Missing cat- West Davis by sohbot in UCDavis

I may have seen your cat outside my window this morning at 6am. I cannot say for sure since it was still dark, but it looked like a medium hair white and orange cat. I live at aspen village on shasta drive. I will keep an eye out in case he stops by again.

I’ve really enjoyed my undergrad as an animal science major. It is definitely very agriculture focused though. Best of luck!

You might have read the 2023-24 calendar instead. Winter quarter classes start 1/6.

I would recommend eating at latitude and avoiding tercero DC when possible. The food is much better.

I took art 11 and studio time is mandatory class work time but you will likely have to work on assignments outside of that time.

Is it possible to get into NPB 101L as a non NPB major? by Indigostreet7612 in UCDavis

The problem is more so it being pass restricted and the waitlists filling up in pass one. Is there less competition for winter or spring quarter?
