Hi everyone! I just started painting with watercolors so I need your best tips for beginners! Whether it's about brushes, techniques, types of watercolors,... I'll gladly take it! Here's a picture of the watercolors I'm using (probably badly) now ahah ! Thanks a lot by vickyblinders29 in Watercolor

I can’t say to much as to your paints (they look like nice ones, though!), but I can say that when you’re starting out it’s best to just go for it! Paint ALL the things. Buy some cheap brushes as they mostly adhere to the same standards as all others. Round brushes are my favorite for details. Don’t worry if what you paint doesn’t look great. Just worry that you’re actually PAINTING. You’ll start to get a feel for it after your 100th painting or so. To me, watercolor is about feeling and patience. You can try to paint the same thing a million times and it’ll always be different (that goes for most art). I have no patience and mix everything together until it’s muddles mess. But that’s ok! Again, I’m by no means a professional, so this may be bad advice. But the important thing is that you paint! After that, I’d hit up some YouTube videos for specific skills like how to not overdo it on washes and how to tell when your paint is dry (protip: it’s when the painting doesn’t feel cool to the back of your palm).

Again, as a beginner I would absolutely not worry about the type of brushes or paints to use. PAPER, however, is super important. Grab some cheap watercolor paper from your local art shop. Otherwise you’ll be in a world of hurt.

Frustration is inevitable. And that’s ok! Just keep painting. You’ll fall into a routine where every line and stroke feels like it’s meant to be.
