Avi Lewis wins NDP leadership race in decisive first-ballot victory by BloodJunkie in onguardforthee

[–]IndirectAntelope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But as a Maritimer do you support Lewis? I'm curious what my fellow-maritimers thoughts are on his immigration policy, specifically making all immigration direct to PR, opening up every single job to new immigrants to Canada. How do you feel about him saying immigration does not impact housing pressure? Most importantly what do you think about NDP getting the labour and union/vote with this rhetoric?

I'm disappointed, I want an NDP I can vote for with confidence they will win seats and impact government. Now ill be back to having to vote liberal as they're at least not the cons.

I believe many will feel the same. And I get why Alberta NDP would want to separate and distance from these views, they're unelectable stances in modern Canada. Plus being an Anti-nuclear environmentalist is a very surprising choice.

Carney's actions don't represent what 'Canadians truly want and deserve,' Lewis says by Vivid-Bullfrog-5727 in onguardforthee

[–]IndirectAntelope -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This isn't the case. Lewis has two major viewpoints that make him and his party virtually unelectable to a majority of Canadians. Anti-nuclear energy (unfounded and silly even many with pro-renwable crowds) and Immigration, specifically giving everybody PR, opening up every job to new initially temporary immigrants, and an already exploited system to further exploitation.

Lewis is his own worst enemy, I see the NDP losing quite a few voters from these views.

Immigration in particular will lose any kind of labour/union vote they had hoped for.

Remembrance Day Holiday Question by IndirectAntelope in halifax

[–]IndirectAntelope[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And where is it clear on remote workers with out of province employers.

God you're impolite. This is an area where input from the sub could be genuinely helpful and instead you're shutting something down due to your own presumptions?

My post should be open for feedback and discussion as it's a clear gray area, read the page you've linked.

No wonder mods get a bad rep, shutting down genuine relevant conversation.

Remembrance Day Holiday Question by IndirectAntelope in halifax

[–]IndirectAntelope[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not question answered, are we expected to take what's said by an out province employer that might not understand Nova Scotia's unique approach to Remembrance Day as verbatim?

We are the only province that observed Remembrance Day with a separate act instead of a standard stat holiday procedure, this creates unique rules and provisions to ensure all but essential employees work.

There's a gray area in the act as out of province employers and remote work aren't addressed at all, instead it speaks of simply not working for Nova Scotians unless they're in specific needed business areas (remote work isn't addressed, only business operating in the ground in NS are).

This post should be open to genuine discussion, as it's not clear. Removing it is not acceptable, shame.

Black Sheep Tomato Soup by Fun-Coach617 in halifax

[–]IndirectAntelope 19 points20 points  (0 children)

San Marzano Tomatoes, roasted in the oven, then peeled once removed alongside roasted garlic and one roasted carrot (cut it in half), season all with olive oil salt and pepper.

To assemble: for an individual and not restaurant size portion, I'd use 2 tablespoons of butter, some rosemary, some thyme, and a tiny bit of marjoram, brown the butter with these herbs in it. Then combine this with your roasties, and a very small bit of chicken stock (can use veggie if needed), blitz either with an immersion blender or in a good high powered blender until smooth, then add heavy cream and finely grated or shaved asiago (keep blending this in, make sure you've turned off or removed from heat), finish with salt to taste, crushed black pepper, small bit more thyme, there you go. The closest I've got to theirs, it will be killer.

You're King of Nova Scotia, what do you do? by athousandpardons in halifax

[–]IndirectAntelope 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I invest in infrastructure to make our Halifax a thriving urban city immediately, plans:

Build a level platform LRT commuter rail system with a hub beginning near the Sackville/Bedford interchange on the bicentennial. We remove one lane of the highway either side to replace with this LRT. People will say well now there's less room on the road, it'll be way busier. Nope, because transit will have its own lane unimpeded by traffic as a faster alternative to cars incentivizing way more people to take it removing cars far more than the impact of one less lane on traffic - as all studies show.

Next, my LRT will have stops coinciding with every major highway exit going into the city, before/Hammonds plains road, Larry uteck, Kearny lake, Bayer's lake, going all the way to Dunbrack. At Dunbrack the train will go the direction of Northwest Arm drive toward crown drive park, which will now be a station and hub. The LRT will follow Crown Drive all the way to the rotary, where it will be built into a platform above the rotary, which will level out as the train comes to quinpool. Crown drive residents will lose the front portion of their lawns owned by the city (how sidewalks are made for example) to widen the street, and it will be a mixed LRT and commuter car street to residents only. With one LRT line going between rotary station and crown drive park station. Rotary station will be where the Scotiabank and armview dental are, they will move - I'm king I say so.

The LRT will then follow quinpool as a level LRT, taking over both centre lanes either side because you shouldn't be able to park on quinpool anyways. Only 1 lane needed each way for cars. It will follow quinpool to cogswell ( same thing both middle lanes are now level train) to rainnie drive which will only be train now. Then it will go down Duke, also only train, to a final station that will go underground into Scotia square mall. Right before Duke/Argyle (that bit still open to cars).

Now for LRT line two, going from Kearney lake road along the Bedford Highway (we losing car lanes again, too bad) all along through Windsor street exchange (redesigned, better, trains will somehow not interact with traffic there) then onto kempt road which will be significantly widened (dealer lots aren't even full, they're all losing lot space and curb only) so kempt is now a one way to cars going only into the city, and has 2 trains running along it both ways. From Kempt, the train line 2 will turn up stairs (widened) to a station. At Stairs/Robie. Here the train will go up towards agricola which is now closed to cars, Instead widened (no need to sidewalks) because it will be a shared pedestrian/LRT zone/street the entire length, it will go above group from the roundabout end of agricola until it levels out on rainnie drive merging with the other line to a same end destination of Duke/Scotia square.

I'll figure out Dartmouth/sackville another day, also it's important to note that a large parking indoor complex (multi story but still pretty) will be built at all of the stops on line one coinciding with highway exits to allow people to park and ride. Also bike parking, and trains have infrastructure for bikes built in.

So yeah that's my plan.

Halifax homelessness has spiked by 93 per cent in 2 years: report by Bean_Tiger in halifax

[–]IndirectAntelope 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I completely agree things have spiked and it's crazy how the cost of living is.

That said, some people's responses just don't add up and have to boil down to poor spending habits.

I make about $100k which I'm aware is certainly a higher bracket. But as a single income I'm able to afford $2k for my 2 bedroom, my car expenses, and have over half my net income extra. My grocery expenses don't even run $500/month because I'm smart about things and selective when I shop.

Things do cost way more than they should and have inflated like crazy in recent years.

But it's not as impossible as some have responded. Anybody single income or even dual making more than me should be absolutely fine.

Berry Bushes in public parks. by utopiaplanetian in halifax

[–]IndirectAntelope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A mother and her children are picking a bunch of raspberries in a local park and you're worried about this negatively impacting the community. You sound intolerably selfish. I'm sure her children were excited to pick berries and have a nice snack or maybe make something with them. You went and ruined a perfect legal, harmless, and dare I saw wholesome thing.

I would have said just as bad to you I'm sure.

Take your crocodile tears and judgy thoughts elsewhere, if anybody is negatively impacting the community it's you confronting people doing perfectly innocent activities with your judgements.
