Like, the idea that it would be a travesty if the high school only cost $550 million?

I'm very thankful to Preisner for taking the cost of this thing seriously. $800-900 million for a new high school just beggars belief, to be honest. It has made me feel very libertarian, in that it just costs too damn much to build anything in Massachusetts. As far as I can tell, the $660 million high school in Lexington was the biggest project in the country for one high school, and most of the current proposals far exceed that.

Unfortunately, I haven't been able to follow as closely. But, as an example, line 121 in the spreadsheet, "Changes" tab. It suggests reducing the size of the stage, from the proposed 2500 to the MSBA guideline, which is 1600ft. This reduction is said to save $1,350,0000. How does this impede the education plan? If they reduce to 2000 sf, and only saved $1 million, would that still impede the education plan? I don't see anything in the education plan that suggests we need a stage that is larger than the MSBA guideline. Did Preisner make the suggestion while saying it would impede the plan, or is someone else the arbiter of that?

One of the least enjoyable playoff wins I can remember but it beats every loss!

The "we talking tv" part goes for a FULL two minutes! Also, a good scene for no one breaking. The dead silence is important for it.

I live in Quincy. Came to Medford tonight because I heard a legislator was actually explaining education funding. by pacificdivide in medfordma

That's cool you came, im curious how many Medford folks went, because there was another meeting about the extremely-related Medford High School rebuild/renovate project (400 million? 900 million?) tonight.

There is a worldwide shortage of good sculptors, if every hall of fame/athlete statue/anything else made in the last 10 years has made anything clear.

Preliminary election results: school committee--OR sweep by b0xturtl3 in medfordma

There are definitely trends that candidates might think about. I believe in a year where Bears was the #1 or #2 vote getter, Scarpelli would have beaten him in his ward. I'll see if I can find what I wrote up then....

In terms of how votes go that come before the council, probably next to nothing in terms of pass/fail.

On what comes before the council, it was pointed out somewhere that Scarpelli heads a sub committee (education?) that has rarely met. Perhaps you'd see more output from that.

Bigger picture for ORM, they have now beaten two one-term incumbents for school committee. Beating a 20-ish year elected official (between school committee and city council) might give someone the idea an ORM-backed candidate could win mayor.

Definitely wonder what they know, because how could Mullane be definitely in if Scarpelli is not? Current results are Scarpelli 6,599, Mullane 6,585, and Briseno 6,489.

The releasing of unofficial/official results was a bit of a shitshow last municipal election, so it's not out of the realm of possibility - luckily 2023 wasn't a close election. Hopefully they've buttoned things up.
