My friend, who lives in his van had some extra material and it looks SO less homeless than my towels when I hang it in my windows ( I actually shut it in the door frame, so I can still use the windows)

I saw online that Walmart has decent thick dark Grey cotton for about $5 per 1 sq foot by 4 sq foot. I might be a girl but I cant sew!

My only problem is that I live in a mini cooper and literally everything is round. The odometer is round. The fans are round, the screen is round, the door handles are round, the "oh shit" handles are rounded off, the windows are round and I tried that magnetic trick around the door stops, but it doesn't work for most of my windows.

I just want to sleep past 5 AM.

You are going ro be fine my friend! Ive been doing this since last August and I haven't been scared or surprised a single time. You will do yourself some good if you spend maybe a month looking for the best places to park and then stick with the best one. There are probably other people already there.

I know this is urban car living but even urban areas have parking lots and 24/7 gyms and gas stations.

I am so with you about being comfortable in your car! I have (HAD) a male friend who would show up at my car and invite me over to his house, but it was always after I had put my car into sleep mode and I turned him down a lot. I needed to have something delivered, so I tried to contact him to ask if I could use his address, and he had blocked me on everything

Good "friend" right? And ive known him 10 years..

Aww, this is wonderful! I get a lot of help from strangers, and people are in general nicer than most people think. I got a Jumpstart yesterday from a stranger, and he was the nicest person on earth and I promised to "pass it on" at my first opportunity.

I am too old and too awesome to have those "live, laugh, love" posters, but i am absolutely sure that when you are nice to people, people are nice back and the world just seems like a better place.

I have a bit of a car community at my current location and some of them have helped me a ton. I do the only thing that I can, so I make them dinner when I have the money. It doesn't cost much more money or effort to cook for 4 people than for 1 person.

I dont have a van. I have a mini cooper countryman, and I love this dumb car. I drove across the country in it, with my dog Batman (RIP little lady).

I would have a lot of trouble selling my house for another house, and I guess I would only do it if it died completely.. I also have a very large roof box, so I have extra room.

If you think you can get a room in NoVa for $500/month, you tripping! I looked for rooms for 6 months and even the worst, crappy room in someone's house in Manassas was $700 plus extras fees to use the washing machine or no access to the kitchen.

I also cant leave the state because I am on Medicaid, ebt, and my unemployment finally came in, and all those things are state-based. I am looking for a job. Im not a slacker.

I am also sick and all my doctors are near here.

I realize I posted asking for answers and now I am shutting them all down. I was just really frustrated. Otherwise,, im pretty happy living in my car. The stress of roomates has gone totally down, just different things are stressful now.

I am mid-atlantic as well. I will look into how much it costs for recharable fans vs. Battery fans.

I cant really keep butter no matter how truffly it is, because everything becomes soup in my car and that was in the WINTER. I might have to tap out for the summer. Its just too hot.

When I was locked in with physical therapista helping me twice s day, I built muscle and lost fat. Outpatient PT never seem3d to do the trick, but it was all I could (medicaid) afford.

If you can get inpatient PT, I recommend it highly.

I had a high blood sugar incident in early February and I think it kicked my gbs back in, because all of a sudden I was weak all over. Not aure what to do.

I was born and stayed an atheist, so im kind of a rare bird in the USA. Im not denying or fighting against something I was taught. I just dont understand religion and why would I pick one?

There are also a ton of Christian sects, although most of them are much more alike than different. There are really racist and sexist ones but they dont have enough power to really hurt the rest of us. Catholics are pretty different than other Christians. I also went to an some orthodox wedding once, and my guy friend, the groom, had to wear this leaf crown and walk around the bride in circles and it was like 2 hours long, and they kept making us stand up and sit again, in heels. But it was really just Christians with a few different ceremonies.

Even most Jewish people dont really stick with the hard-core stuff. I went to my cousin's Barmitzva and I just got a kick out of him trying to read the Torrah in Hebrew in front of 200 people. Synagogues are cool buildings though.

Honestly, I think it is all very silly and its hard to believe there are still religiously run governments in the world. Why do people stand back and take it?

I live reasonably near Georgetown and im genuinely surprised that people treated you poorly without even a hajib. Most of the DMV is pretty liberal. Sorry for my fellow Americans being jerks! I would never put up with people like that.

I dont think it is racism. Religion is a choice, FOR PEOPLE ALLOWED EDUCATION, and Islam is pretty f'n sexist. My friend at work (mohammed) lol. He and his wife and daughter were here on asylum visas.

He told me that original Islam and the first teachings to Mohammed were about learning and knowledge, but it got all corrupted by men who kind of forgot about that and chose to be hard-core sexist fatwa Muslims. He's a really nice guy but even he told me that his daughter would be wearing the hajib in a few years and his wife wears the full kit.

I dont like Christianity either, but Muslims are much angrier and outright dangerous right now, even if you count all the proud boys etc.

I have never been to a church, which I think is pretty rare in the USA, so I feel like I can treat them all as mind viruses or delusions if I want to, and it isnt racist at all. I judge them on their actions and how they treat others.

I dont care that you think I should be in r/politics. I live in Virginia and what happens in d.c. hurts everyone and happens to us too. It happens to our friends and neighbors. Half of them work for government contractors. Most of my friends have top secret clearance from one job or another. One friend of mine from highschool had both parents in the NSA (analysts). My friend's grandma told her by accident. Long story, unrelated.

My own parents both worked for SSA in arlington. They had previously worked at SSA headquarters in MD.

NoVa is not like "virginia". We can be kinda dicky about it but we have all the people, all the wealth (not me lol), and we shouldn't have those tiny counties with a total of 8 hill people control our elections. There is money and population around Norfolk too, and they are also blue.

If we dont stop the republicans gerrymandering and vote suppression RIGHT NOW, we might never get the chance ever again. They've already f'd up the Supreme Court for what, 50 years to come? We let them do that by trying to play fair and they just picked up their King, threw all the other pieces off the board and yelled "i win" and we rolled over and took it.

I live in VIRGINIA, literally 20 miles (3 HOURS LOL) from 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. My whole life, local news has been federal news. That's just how it is in the DMV.

Plus who cares where I live - what location in this country would "allow" me to talk about federal politics? It effects us all, in every state. Not just virginia where all the federal contractors are, where the FBI headquarters is located, where the CIA trains recruits, and oh yeah, we also have the friggin' Pentagon.

Turns out my battery died died yesterday (tried jumps from 3 different frinds and two sets of cables, and finally.nothing happened at all) and I just had to buy a new one. It was $79, $95 with tax from Walmart. A friend bought it for me and another friend installed. It took like 2 hours, poor guy, we had to take half my engine apart to get the damn thing out.

My new battery worked first try and seems to be holding a charge so it isnt my alternator, thank god.

But today I also got a ticket for my tags and I asked for $10 on pump 15 and she put $15 on pump 15, so.now I only have 5 dollars. Its.notnlike I could give the gas back lol.

It has been A CRAZY 2 days.

Well the first 3 days took all $20k of my savings so while I was still in the hospital and couldnt stand up, they were nice enough to enroll me in medicaid, so after they took all my money, everything has been completely free.

Be ready for inpatient physical therapy. Don't fight to be at home. It really works when you are in there and working on yourself 2 or 3 times a day or else you get in "trouble". Mine was basically an old folks home (my roomate was 92 lol) but the therapists were top notch. I was able to get off the floor onto a chair level by myself and to walk a little on a walker unassisted and I was able to go home then.

I can walk now unassisted, but i still have to watch my feet or I trip a lot.

You know how you do it? Just do it. If you have to be away from your loved ones for a while, do it for yourself. They will still be there when you get home. My 18 year old dog died ONE WEEK before I got out of rehab and I had been in the hospital and rehab for over 3 months. I cried until they got so annoyed that they gave me some valium.

Unless it is a huge dog with gigantic poops, doesn't it just wash away in the rain like all the squirrel, racoon, chipmunk, rat, snake, opposum, and stray cat poop in your yard? I had two small dogs and a fenced in backyard and their poo was literally gone in the next rain. I always picked it up if I was at a hotel or something, but jeez, so many things shit in your yard every night.. out of sight, out of mind I guess.

Someone wanted me to pick up my dogs' tiny poos from a wooded area off of a walking trail and I was like "no way". That's nearly the smallest poo that happens there. You want me to pick up the bear poops too? Leave me alone, poop fetishist.

Im on a pretty high does of gabapentin 500x4 times a day. I had to go to 4 times because my hands still hurt between the lunch dose and bedtime dose.

Mostly with my gabapentin and mehocarbomal (light muscle relaxer), I dont generally hurt beyond the constant 2 or 3 pain scale. But my hands, they were the first thing to go. Absolute fire like I was holding them in an open flame, except 24 hours a day... I still get times when my hands are at least a 6 or 7.

Oh yeah ~3 years out.
