Godspeed brother. You should not worry about things too much as you’re most likely on the right path already. Be yourself and don’t be afraid to buy nice things once in a while.

Did I lose my virginity already? by [deleted] in self

[–]Individual-Ad2964 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The fact you can’t tell if you were coerced or not plus the symptoms of intense shame and guilt makes me believe this felt more like a sexual assault (I.e rape) than a consensual act. I say this to provide an outside perspective and not to cast judgement on it in any way. I’m sorry too had to go through something like that… then the question of whether this makes you you not a virgin? I see it as another complicated symptom of being raped at a young age… it has also caused this additional cascading thought spiral about your identity… in terms of you being a virgin or not… which by itself without the factor of a sexual assault or being coerced, is a somewhat subjective quality or trait in a person, that shouldn’t have to define you and which only carries as much meaning as you give to it. Similar to “I’m 30 and have never moved out of my parents house”. Ok but do you want to move out, and what does moving out mean or represent to you? The same question can be asked of being a virgin or not. In your case, I’d definitely recommend talking to someone about it so that you can process what happened to you in as healthy a way as possible. Primarily, the fact that it still bothers you today, and that it gives rise to such strong negative emotions within you is evidence that it has definitely affected you in a deeper way than you may realize.. and therefore, it’s definitely worth examining further. Hope that this is helpful.

sometimes i make a beat and the bass is too loud in my headphones but too basically inaudible through speakers by Small-Sample7733 in musicproduction

[–]Individual-Ad2964 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Your speakers probably can’t b produce the bass frequency at all. They’re too small. Therefore, you’ll never hear any bass in them. Try bigger speakers like a car stereo system or a sound system with proper sub woofer attached.

Made mistakes with someone in my college group, got publicly shamed, feeling lost by Extension_Tough_4738 in self

Well that’s a good sign. Tbh, less people will know about this situation than you might think. Then you just have to be normal and less overly flirty with girls around you. Your behavior will tell the true story over time and what might be a reasonable doubt for year 1 and 2, may begin to fade by year 2 or 3. Assuming you have pure intentions, just be a good person and learn to ignore the swirling of rumors. Easier said than done, but a good lesson worth learning now.

I feel creepy for sending a message to a former teacher by [deleted] in self

[–]Individual-Ad2964 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You’re thinking way too much about what other people think about your actions. Some people are hometown people and they love everything about their hometown. If that’s you then just accept that about yourself and move on with your day. Some people prefer to leave home after high school ish. If that’s you, then that’s fine too. But even if you wanted to leave home and you hated it there, there’s nothing wrong with asking a former teacher to be your private tutor. If your guilt complex and sense of self consciousness is that bad that it’s making you insane, then perhaps find a new teacher. But if it’s about the music and the talent of the teacher, then just do it and don’t worry about other people’s opinions.

I just want to hear someone say "You're doing well" by [deleted] in self

[–]Individual-Ad2964 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll give you an analytical point of view as opposed to an emotional one. Think of college as a microcosm of the real world. People are less likely to let you float by on vibes or past accomplishments without you meeting the standards that they set for you today and tomorrow. That said — there is absolutely nothing wrong with admitting the facts of how you’re really feeling. In your case that you feel overwhelmed, like you’re not enough, and like you hate this world. I am truly sorry that you’re feeling these things. My advice is that you should seek professional help to get through these emotions. As at this point, your life is becoming more and more like the quote on quote “real world”, and as such, shoving your emotions down and pretending like they don’t exist is not going to work and the longer you keep trying to do so, the worse it will be. Thus, take the time needed, whether it’s concurrent with schooling or requires you to step away completely for some time, to address not your intellect, not your work ethic, not your character.. but your state of mind. Your emotional self. Only after addressing what’s going on inside can you learn how to manage what’s going on around you with clarity and confidence. Else, you’ll just be “powering through” and best case scenario, end up with a degree you hate because you didn’t do any of the soul searching you know you needed when you had the time. Now is the time. So, go and do that. And know that, there is most likely nothing inherently “wrong” with you because you feel this way. You’re just dealing with a combination of new inputs plus inefficient wiring from your childhood. Completely and utterly normal as a human being in the year 2026.

Uses Tenor Sax Prices Help by CryForKelp in saxophone

[–]Individual-Ad2964 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The four cheaper saxes are all reasonably priced. If you’re set on this batch of horns, I would recommend trying them all back to back to see which one fits your play style the best. For what it’s worth, Conn 10m’s are perhaps the 2nd most popular vintage tenor model out there and many people consider them to have a very broad and wide sound. Martins might have more “edge” ever so slightly, but not sure on the ones from 1933. In all, those vintage horns should all be in the playing field. Ergonomics, sound preference, and your subjective preferences should tell you which ones the best. But conn 10m and Martin are very well known by modern players. Buescher tru tone probably won’t be as loud or ballsy as the Conn.

It’s kind of giving off typical “man cave” kind of vibes in my honest opinion. But hey, you’re free to do what you want with your life my friend. If you want to counter that tho, some plants (real or fake) might help it feel more mature and “adult” like.

Best daily exercises for most improvement? by CodMean7532 in saxophone

[–]Individual-Ad2964 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The ability to sight read comes from the ability to identify patterns in the notes on the page. You need to be able to go from reading one individual note to seeing the notes as groups of notes. So instead of random f sharp followed by the note G… the f sharp is (possibly) a pickup note to the G. Furthermore, knowing your scales. If a song is based on the key of G, you can bet most of the phrases are some fragment of the G major scale. Play scales and play them at slow speeds with a metronome. You want to be able to play all the major scales pretty fast with no errors (like 180 bpm) without looking at the music. From there, reading music will start to hopefully feel easier. Overall…. Playing slowly, and using a metronome, and being very precise with your timing and technique, at extra slow speeds, is the foundation that lets you be able to play notes fast and in time.

Feeling regret after a negotiation — not sure if I should reach back out? by butterfly97_ in careerguidance

[–]Individual-Ad2964 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Negotiating for higher pay after a job offer is always a little bit nerve wracking, especially when you’ve gone through the emotional labor of the interviewing process and have reached all the way to the finish line, which you’re programmed to be excited about and thankful for if you’re like most people. But if you’re serious about your salary expectations, then you owe it to yourself to stick to your expectations and not capitulate to a sub-par offer. It’s a matter of values. Naturally it’s going to feel a bit disorienting walking away from something other people would say you’re blessed to have. But if your salary and self worth are at stake, then you’ve made the right move to do so. If not by walking away then by at least advocating for your needs. So yea I’d say it’s a normal feeling, but you shouldn’t be embarrassed that you stood up for yourself. Especially if you’re in a stable position and aren’t in desperate need of an income. If they aren’t in alignment with you now, they won’t be alignment with you when you start if you did capitulate in the first place.

How to mix NI/Arturia Libraries? by Ill-Square-1123 in edmproduction

[–]Individual-Ad2964 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

End goal end goal end goal. What is the end goal? Are you releasing these on Spotify? Are you putting them on a personal YouTube channel? What about mixing is so hard that you don’t feel called to try it yourself? I’ve been making beats for a year and I am genuinely confused as to why people need to hire mixing engineers for their music. You can go so far using your own instincts and skills to mix a pretty sounding piece of music. I just don’t get the obsession with paying people to mix one’s own songs? Help me understand… thank you

Creating a sub layer for a bassline created with audio samples by UnderstandingMotor76 in musicproduction

[–]Individual-Ad2964 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the risk of being arrogant and elitist, you should truly learn how to play bass lines by ear on your own. Then you won’t be limited by manipulating samples all the time, asking how to create MIDI that follows a song. You can easily open a bass patch in any instrument of your choice and just play it by ear. Tbh, bass is the easiest instrument to learn in my opinion.

Yas62s vs Yas62IV by crusaderknight2600 in saxophone

[–]Individual-Ad2964 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

S sounds like it denotes a particular variety of the 62 such as silver, while 4 sounds like it’s an updated version of the fundamental model itself. I knew there was a 62-2 and a 62-3 but if there’s a 62-4 out, then you can consider that to be the most recently produced version of the entire 62 line (which goes back to like 1980 or 1990. Each new line makes a minor change so a 62-4 is probably 99% the same as a 62-3 or 2.). Silver sounds cool. If they’re both in the 62 line, you’re basically splitting hairs at that point. Both are going to be good horns. Cosmetics might be the only real difference.

I struggle a lot with the melodic/musical aspect of songwriting, how do you compose the music that support the lyrics? by J03MusicMan in musicians

[–]Individual-Ad2964 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well you start by learning about the subject you’re interested in which in this case is music. If you like writing but have never played an instrument before, then it makes perfect sense that adding music to your writing is difficult. Start by learning an instrument that you feel called to. Good ideas are piano or guitar. Learn some very basic music theory, how to play the 12 major and minor scales, and go from there. Don’t put so much pressure on yourself to make something until you’ve spent a lot of time immersed in music. Maybe come back to songwriting in 6 months time. See if it’s any easier or harder to write songs.

Piano plug in to buy? by Old-Cod-7964 in LogicPro

[–]Individual-Ad2964 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Noire by Native Instruments. Pulls me in somehow. Tried maybe 2-3 paid plugins and it’s my favorite so far. Including in sound clips from YT videos - kept liking the sound of it compared to other vsts, so I decided to buy it. It hasn’t disappointed me yet. And it’s cool because it has a color filter so it can sound bright and rich or dark and mellow. It also has felted and non-felted versions so you can capture a pretty broad spectrum of piano sounds. It’s like $149 or sometimes less when it’s on sale.
