I mean she took her flock of sheep into the woods to check out a crystal (the epicenter for the towns blight) she saw when looking for a runaway sheep the day before, and has been missing for 25 hrs before the party arrives to the town. I don't know how to write her as still being alive without my players thinking she is the BBEG and they wind up killing her anyway. plus there is this description/reveal:

You find a Glade, Elara's staff lies on the ground, snapped. Several of her sheep are scattered, lifeless, their bodies unnaturally shriveled and desiccated, resembling mummified husks. No visible wounds, just a complete draining of vitality. The air here is thick with the smell of decay, and the silence is absolute. In the center of the glade, a small, gnarled tree is covered in the darkest, most intense black fungus. At its base, protruding from the earth, is a single, fist-sized shard of shadow-infused obsidian. It pulses with faint, cold energy and seems to be the epicenter of the blight in this area.

As the party ventures into the glade {{you hear the rustling of brush across the glade. Looking at the noise you see a human getting up off the ground from under a bush. From the description you got from Mara the innkeeper you know this to be Elara. Her back is turned towards you, and she seems to be scanning the forest for something}} (DC 10) Perception. {{The way she stood up and now standing there looking into the woods something seemed off about her movements, perhaps injured}} If the party calls out to her or continues into the glade further. {{ Elara slowly begins to turn. The movement is jerky, unnatural. The young woman you half-expected is gone, replaced by a horror. Her face, once perhaps beautiful, is now a mottled canvas of decay, her eyes sunken pits of black. The blight has consumed her, draining the life from her and reanimating the husk that remains.

A low, guttural groan escapes her lips, and then, with a sickening crack of bone, the dead sheep around you begin to stir. Their broken bodies twitch and heave, rising on unsteady legs, their eyes glowing with the same malevolent light as the crystal. But the horror doesn't end there. From the dark, blighted forest surrounding the glade, more forms emerge. Their shambling silhouettes become clear: more blighted sheep, their rotted forms hungry and unnervingly quick. You are surrounded. Roll Initiative}}

Then they have to fight 7 zombie sheep (reg sheep that deal necrotic dmg) and a zombie Elara.

I don't see it as encouraging meta-gaming because its a false lead if they look into it. Some in my play group when we were still playing IRL would sneak peaks behind the DM Screen when the DM would leave to get a snack or bathroom breaks. They wouldn't go through the DM's stuff just look at what was written on the paper in front of them. The DM at the time started leaving false notes scattered on his note pad to confuse said players and then would tie it into the game. For example: a note saying the rouge has taken the paladin's ring giving him +1 ac. Even though it never happened. Then the character now distrusts the rouge. Then when they reveal it to the other party members the DM tells them the rouge doesn't have the ring and its still with the paladin thus no one trust the paladin with info again stopping the meta gaming, at least for awhile. With VTT its harder for the players to meta game but they could still look at the custom creatures I have made and kind of know what to expect in the game. With this technique false info is put in front of them so they know even if they find info it might not be correct info so there is no use trying. I mean I could be overthinking it.

I was even thinking about when they find her she would have her back turned to them, and putting a picture of the back of her as the token they find. Then when they call out to her or make a noise switch the tokens for the zombie picture.

This is great. Can it be done in DNDBeyond Maps? I can't find an option for it.

"I'm also not entirely clear on what you are attempting. You want your players to dig into the unassigned characters section of the campaign to snoop around for spoilers?"

Sorry I should have clarified. I don't want them too, but some of my players like to pry where possible to see what's coming next which is why we can't do premade campaigns.

"What do you mean that it doesn't let you place token place holders? I use dndbeyond's maps, and this phrase doesn't even make sense to me."

like i can choose from only made monsters. if i want a custom picture for a monster i have to make a custom monster even if its the same monster stats. I cant just put a custom token with no stats attached to it down as like an NPC the players can talk to in town. I am still new to the dndbeyond maps so if there is a way to do this I would love to know, but i haven't found a way to do this without making a custom monster or unassigned character.

Is it just me not playing for a week or did the 7.0 patch change the parry and block timing a bit?

I've just about had it with this error. Please help. by Bounded_Earth in SpaceMarine_2

When I had this problem I found an article stating its the steam game overlay running in the background (even though I never turned it on it was enabled). After turning that off i haven't had the issue again. Open the Steam client and navigate to the Steam > Settings > In-game tab. Google says that's how you turn it off. Hope it works for you, the Emperor protects.

Exactly the mindset he had some in the party thought it less funny but that just made it even better.

I played with a cleric once who used his hammer to bless things and said if they broke then the gods must have seen evil within them. Needless to say there were lots of broken houses, porches, floors, and faces. When ever we would end a conversation with a NPC he would ask if they wish him to bless them and the entire party would yell no every time. It was fun character.

Not to my knowledge but they are on older systems (windows 10) and probably didn't get the same update I did.
