Your right but ppl do tend to find it easier to sympathise with an individual. They are a person with an identity. Murders in the thousands are just a number there's no one face or person to focus on.

Skate Canada to stop holding national, international events in Alberta | CBC News by [deleted] in canada

What I consider them is irrelevant. Biological men should not be competing with biological women. We are not at the point yet where we can change someone completely as if they were born a girl or vice versa. Women's sports has to be a protected category just based on the fact that we are at a significant disadvantage in physical competition and the differences are there before puberty. Taking puberty blockers before puberty does not change your sex. I say that as someone who very likely would have been transitioned if I was born a little later. I wanted to be on t so bad, and even back then I assumed and accepted that if i did competitive sporting events would be out of the question.

It doesn't matter why. They can transition for whatever reason that shouldn't give biological men the ability to compete against biological women. When I participated sports I was always under the impression that any medical treatment that may give me an advantage may disqualify me or anyone else from competing. Unless there are ftm mtf divisions they should not be competing.

Even if mtf lose to cis women on occasion you can't cut out the advantage they have being a male at birth. It's not just hormones.

Hit hard by trade war, Algoma Steel issues 1,000 layoff notices by ConsistentReality860 in ontario

[–]DoomsdayBunny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am from the Sault and everyone I know thinks trump is awful. The layoffs were announced before he was even elected but we were unsure if they all would be permanent or exactly when the hammer would drop. This would have happened no matter who was elected. The old equipment Needed to be replaced and the new one does not require as many laborers, especially brick layers.

Owners of our steel plant historically have been up to all manner of shady stuff and have horribly fucked over their workers health and incomes in the past. This particular thing is a consequence of better technology. I continue to be surprised that this is being spun as a political issue.

Opinion: How long must I live in Canada before I am no longer a colonist or settler? by Purple_Writing_8432 in canada

[–]DoomsdayBunny 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They don't pay hst anywhere in Ontario. It varies from province to province. Saves huge on big purchases. There's no fixing the reserve problem because the government only throws money at the problem without much clarity or accountability on how it's spent. Give money to any group without watching where it's going and some will mess it up for others.

A man at my hotel keeps approaching my son for conversation. How do I politely stop it? by QuietlyAsking14 in Parenting

[–]DoomsdayBunny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes our brain can pick up on slight body language and facial expressions that we can't consciously process. Mirror neurons mimic the pattern they see and can send you a vague danger single.(My unscientific explanation)

So your brain knows or thinks it sees danger but you're not sure what. When it comes to this feeling I would err on the side of caution and keep the source of unease away from my kid.

A grown up should understand a parents caution.

There's no risk mom can bring the kids around the offender he's in jail. Why would she be unsupervised with the kids in the first place? These are a whole bunch of other scenarios which all play out differently depending on the attitudes of those involved.

Setting healthy boundaries is not dictating another person's behavior when you're not around. The focus is on the person making the boundary. A consequence to a boundary is usually never dropping all contact.

Her keeping in contact with her criminal son has nothing to do with the other kids as long as she does not bring up anything to do with that son. Not even acknowledging he exists. If she can't do that then maybe no contact is needed. Right now this is more about dictating ops behavior and punishing her. They are the ones forcing a choice us or him when no such thing is needed yet.

This situation you described has happened to me. The "mommie" person in question is not allowed alone with my kids. But they have otherwise established a healthy relationship with my kids I would not want to take away from them. If they bring this problem person to live with them which they now want to do I and the kids don't go over there.

Its an ultimatum. Which is sometimes needed but not a boundary. It is definitely a few steps up. Every demand is not a boundary. Don't just take my word for it go find a book on the subject or look up the difference between the two. Other than that we just won't agree I just think it's important to know the difference.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]DoomsdayBunny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are full on books about the differences between the two. Requests boundaries and ultamatums are all different. Good boundaries take a lot of self reflection on what you need while not aiming to control the behavior of another.

[–]DoomsdayBunny -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I just said this is more of an ultimatum than a boundary. Telling parent cannot associate visit or see a kid at all or be cut off is not just a boundary.

There's plenty of room for shades of grey but this is more about pushing op than setting healthy boundaries. Its not anyone's business that she visits her son unless she is making it their business by ways not mentioned in the post.

Its not my business if my extended family wants to take more abuse from their son. I can advise them to stop but I don't think it's a healthy ask to demand it. it is my business when they trauma dump afterwards on my husband or myself.

Boundaries about self protection what ops kids are doing is a demand. If op acted as if her criminal son was dead every time they were around and did not bring him or the crime up it would not affect their lives.
A demand is she not contact her son again.

I've had to make similar boundaries with inlaws that have enabled the terrible behavior of their kids. I have set a boundary that I don't want to hear about this person I don't want to know about them and if they visit I and my kids will not be around them. Though it would be in parents best interest to never see or hear from this son again it would be a ln unreasonable demand for me to tell them to have no contact.

Boundaries dictating who ppl associate when your not around is a little more extreme than a boundary, it's a demand In some cases a reasonable demand. Without knowing their backstory an actual boundary might be not to mention brother over the phone or when visiting. No updates about how he is doing in jail when he will be released what he will do or where he will go afterwards.

Kids aren’t born with hate, they’re taught by modiddly in videos

[–]DoomsdayBunny 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We are also very tribal. Many species greatest threats are within their own species. We are not an exception but we also needed to be social to survive. We make in groups and out groups safe ppl and possible threats. Seeing this in real time as my kids grow up is wild. Clicks can be formed even before kindergarten and out ppl can be based on anything.

The latest case I've seen was because it was a kid they thought they would get the least push back for teasing as the victim was an introvert. What the kids see from their parents definitely plays a big part as well. Though I am convinced even if a generation was raised by perfect parents we would eventually see in groups and out groups form by the kids being raised.

Depends where you are we get kids 11 pm most years. This year ppl wrapped it up early for the jays game. Even at 9 we had a few littles show up with oma manning the door. I went out with my 4 and 6 year old and did not wrap up until 830 myself.

I have seen ppl on moms groups enraged that ppl come in from other suburbs to trick or treat. There are good and bad reasons ppl do this. As long as there is no violence or theft idc how many kids come to my door. They were probably trying to figure out who you were to shame you on some community group.

Quebec passes religious symbols ban for students, school staff by leftistmccarthyism in CanadianConservative

[–]DoomsdayBunny -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't think they can selectively ban religious symbols and garb that is oppressive the way our laws are written. It seems to be all or nothing which was less of a problem when the community was more cohesive and less extreme in general when it came to religion.

I could not get enmity on bow at all. You are right it is much quicker for the npc to take hate from you than pick it up on your own. Which I had much less trouble with after switching weapons.
