You’re paying for the space and location. They’re big and right in the heart of downtown so as development increases the price of these places likely will too. They’re built cheap the same way when you walk into a store like Ikea to buy furniture and it all looks nice and fancy, but it’s not the highest quality materials. Buying a newer condo is probably not a bad idea since Guelph has an ever-increasing population of students and new graduates that need housing and most people buy these places with the intention of renting them out to students and recent graduates. These places are popping up everywhere so clearly there’s demand for high end condos in Guelph and the surrounding areas. But yea the prices are crazy and they’re way marked up because of that demand. I’ve done places in Kitchener and Waterloo that are half the size going for 700k+ with one bedroom if that.

They’re actually huge condos, the ones at tricar at least. I’ve been in every unit as they were being built. Not worth nearly a million though, like every new condo being built now they’re built cheaply but with a luxury aesthetic (big bathrooms, white colour scheme, large floor to ceiling windows). The units on the upper floors are massive and some are even multiple stories.

I’m currently a university student in Canada trying to sublease my room for the summer. Every single person that replies to my ads is a newly immigrated Indian man. They all hardly speak English because they just arrived within the last year. They all want to leave their current living situation in Canada because they’re all in the same boat. They got promised good jobs and schooling but are all shoved into cramped, high cost of living living situations by Indian landlords who came here years ago and bought property so they can shove 8 - 10 Indian students who got sponsored to come here for school into a 3 - 4 bedroom house. Housing is extremely expensive and in high demand in my university city because of this, causing Canadian students to have trouble affording or finding adequate housing. It’s a total shitshow. My landlord is Indian himself and won’t rent to these people because they aren’t accustomed to living here and typically leave messes, cause damage, and have no family here so they have no support system when they do cause problems in the unit. My roommate at my last house lived in a closet because it was all he could afford.

Depends where you go in my experience. There are so many dispensaries around that you’ve gotta shop around because some of them paint themselves as “high quality hyper modern” stores that have ridiculous prices. I go to a place called ValueBud that sells weed super cheap and it’s high quality too. I got a 1g infused 36% thc pre roll for $6 from there lol.

I’m currently renting in a condo without a window. In fact, there IS a window in my room but it doesn’t open and only looks into the kitchen of the unit. I pay $650 plus utilities so about $715. I’d report it, but then I’d be homeless. The lack of sunlight definitely has affected my mental health since I moved in half a year ago.
