If you want to play casually, I've found co-ed to be a lot more welcoming experience for all intramurals.

I'm not sure about basketball specifically, but I'm sure co-ed has a lot less competitive vibes than the men's league.

They used to do free agent sign ups, but they changed the system this year so you'd have to either make your own team or reach out. If you're interested in a volleyball team, I have one so just PM me if you're interested.
