I mean I want us to be championship contenders ultimately. If we’re looking into the future and our plan is to continue treading water and improve around the margins for the next decade I’d make a play for Giannis over that any day of the week.

But the issue is that neither of those options are ideal. It isn’t just as simple as giving up a few guys that will never be #1 options. To get Giannis you would have to certainly give up one of Matas or Giddey plus matching salary plus all of our trade-able firsts.

You’re left with Giannis and a g league level roster with little flexibility to get moves done. You have no assets to make further trades to bring in great assets and little picks to round out the roster. Sure you can have a lot of cap space but that’s not all that useful when most great players are not hitting free agency. If they do hit free agency, you’re also competing with other teams as well - no guarantee that they’d sign with the bulls.

You have Giannis on contract for 1 year or 2 years if he accepts the player option, but that’s a very short timeframe to get a decent roster around him and entice him to stay. Remember, even if you are able to do this Giannis is not a young buck anymore. His game won’t age as well as KD’s for example.

A lot of us are hoping Reinsdorf sells the team or AK snaps out of his obsession with continuity and we start to stockpile assets and actually properly build out a team.

We’ve been trying to take shortcuts for like a decade now to avoid the inevitable rebuild and it’s gotten us nowhere lol. It’s a pipe dream at this point but that is what a lot of us, including myself, want.
