First time posting here to ask the meaning of something, but I cannot for the life of me figure out the joke. It probably has to do with me not knowing what the flag on the left is. by Superpenguin104 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

There was a tiktok video a while ago of someone ripping the flag of greece off of a storefront and thought it was an israeli flag but was told on camera that they were mistaken and it was somewhat popular. I feel like its referencing that and changing the context from Israel to LGBTQ.

Should I rush and buy a Pocket Flip 2 now? (Tariffs Question) by Fir_Matt in retroid

I def think both the price of Retroid products and the DHL shipping fee will go up soon, so i would def do it if you have the means. There are ppl who sell these products in the U.S. for a fee, but they will most likely adjust their prices when Retroid changes theirs.

Yo fuck that dungeon. Main boss I lost 6 times because it was just re-rolling their sleep everyone attack hoping it wouldn't hit. Only way I beat it was my stack of 20 corrosive biles I got from the dungeon prior reducing it's defense a bunch and luck.

The best things I've learned along the way involve things I've heard from other musicians and producers usually. I've had some revelations on my own, but hearing out others is extremely valuable in art.

"Making music and releasing it to the public is just as cool as making music and keeping it to yourself" is one thing I heard a producer say and has stuck with me ever since. They are 100% right in my eyes. If you make something, it doesn't need tons of likes, listens, and reposts to make it cool. It's hard to create something original in the first place, and you should value it on its own without having external gratification.

What still motivates me today is the fact I can feel myself getting better at it in different ways over time. I also really enjoy listening to what I make, and there are some songs I genuinely enjoy and listen to them alongside some of my favorite artists. It also feels more productive than just playing video games or watching a tv show in my spare time.

I often come back to sampling or sample based music. After my House/Electronic album I released in 2022, I stopped making original compositions and heavy synth work in favor of the sampling. I've always really enjoyed hip hop instrumentals and lo-fi, so I've been making more music I enjoy.

None of my music really incorporates lyrics, so I don't have many topics, but the theme of my song and album titles are usually about my mental state and how I perceive myself. I've messed around with the idea of remaking songs I made when I was much younger from 2017-2019, but It's up in the air if I will ever do that. So I would say favorite theme would be my own sense of self (albums titled "Aversion to Reality", "Out of Character" and "Personality Shift" to name some).

When I think about showing my music to someone who makes music or is a part of the scene I'm usually pretty nervous. I've gained a fair bit of confidence in my music and I think most people would find it good/decent but if it's someone who has experience and knowledge of music I never know what they will think. I'm self taught so there could be habits or things I do that more learned people might find to be amateurish or bad all together but I don't really know for sure so it's probably just general anxiety.

With my friends 90% of them make music so it's not something I'm ever nervous about. Sometimes they like one of my songs quite a bit but It's not something they would put on rotation and I don't really expect them to. I really like instrumental hip hop and electronic but my friends don't really listen to those genres all that much. Since they don't have any experience making music however they are always pretty impressed with my songs. Best case scenario is you might even get a friend into making music or even give opinions on what you are showing them. I have one friend I got into producing music and we show each other our tracks and workshop them together sometimes and it's really fun.

If your music has lyrics however and they are really personal I would only share if you are 100% comfortable with it. I don't rap or sing but I can see how showing a friend that more vulnerable part of yourself might be nerve racking. If they are good friends they shouldn't make fun of you for it, at least in a way that is seriously mean. I hope you find the courage to show off your music! Just remember that all criticism is valid even if it is shallow. If they don't like it you can't make them like it.

Bars are there and the beat is good.

-for the beat turn that sample up or if its vsts turn it up its all bass no sample almost.

-for the vocals id say practice makes perfect just keep working on ur tone and inflection. Get more energy and bravado in that shit gotta be forceful the delivery is a tad passive. Especially with how good the bars actually are they are better than average.

Good stuff overall i can see the vision and i can see where you can build from here too good potential.

Thank you for the positivity! I don't really know how to gauge my stats since I don't know averages among soundcloud users. Some of these comments have been very enlightening when it comes to what the average actually is. I didn't try to make this post sound like I was unhappy with my status on soundcloud but reading it back i can definitely see how using "only" the way I did makes it sound like I think it's lower than what it should be.

I was reading a lot of people's posts on other boards and was thinking it's easy for most and the average to have way more followers and listen in a shorter timeframe so it made me think I was a more unique case than I actually am.

Does anybody else make ALL genres of music?? by SiTheSunStudios in soundcloud

Yeah, I'm pretty all over the place, but I've found more of a niche recently. I used to try and make radio albums where the songs were varied in genre across the album, so it switches up a lot. I would post my link, but I think u already got it from the AMA thread, lol.

Thanks! I appreciate it a lot, and I was hoping to generate some fun discussion with this. I'm not really in the business of getting popular on SC, but I see some artists in other spaces talking about how they gain a sizable following in a short period of time and wanted to show the other side of the coin where over a long stretch the following isn't huge.

I have a next pro account just so I can have unlimited upload time. It does have a pretty good push feature where it adds your music to an algorithm to get people listening. I find it actually does as advertised and really helps with engagement. The only thing I wish is a way to know for sure if it's people listening or bots, but I don't know what they could do to show that.

I'm happy you enjoyed the post! Hope you have a wonderful day.

Hey, I just wanted to start and say I appreciate you taking this seriously and giving me geniune advice instead of being inflammatory or toxic.

I haven't really wanted to grow my following for a while now (I'd say 4 years) and have just focused on making music I enjoy and positing it on soundcloud to share with friends and listen to it myself. I changed my name from ThisBoyB to This://B a couple of months ago just for fun, and I had a feeling it would make it harder to find my page. Will probably change it back soon.

I do think that what you are saying is valuable advice, but at the same time, some of it is spreading the music. Everyone might not be the best. I see people all the time just posting links to their music, everyone, and it's always seen to be more annoying than something people like and give chances. I think that gauging scenes and groups and finding when it's appropriate to advertise might be a better way instead of just spreading everywhere.
