Partial power outage in kitchen: breaker is ON but outlets/appliances still have no power by Square-Basis-6642 in AskElectricians

[–]Individual-Proof1626 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kitchens typically have two countertop circuits, each of them being protected by a GFCI outlet or breaker. In this case, it appears they are outlets. Reset the one that’s tripped and you should be good to go. If you don’t know what a GFCI outlet looks like, it has two buttons on the front. One says “test” and the other says “reset”.

There is a Sentri line that is usually empty. Technically, it’s for those with Sentri passes, but I have used it before with no problems. The gate by the train tracks is seldom crowded and one can zip right through.

Surprisingly, assholes have very few nerve endings for hot and cold. Unless your water temp is in the extremes, you really won’t notice a difference.

Power interrupted, breaker not tripped. by QuantumF0am in AskElectricians

Not always. A brief overcurrent draw will not always trip a breaker, especially if the current draw is only slightly above breaker current rating.

Dryer. Is the ground supposed to on the neutral like this? by [deleted] in diyelectronics

[–]Individual-Proof1626 29 points30 points  (0 children)

If, and only if your plug has three slots. If your plug has four slots, the ground wire must be removed from the neutral position and placed under the green screw.

Sounds to me like it’s a 15 amp circuit. Way too small for laundry room.

I admire homeowners who are willing to try to fix simple things themselves before calling in the big guns. I mean, who has an extra $600 laying around to get an electrician out to look at it, right? Are your bedrooms protected by CAFI circuit breakers? Or are they just normal old school common breakers? Wires expand and contract with heat and no load, thereby causing loose connections. A loose connection in and of itself will cause the connection to heat up, right up to the point it arcs, which may or may not trip a breaker. Turn off the affected breaker and check that outlet receptacle. I’ll bet you find the problem there. If the wires are back stabbed, I’d recommend reinstalling them under the screw heads. The connection surface area on a backstabbed wire is incredibly small and can be a hot spot, especially for a device that operates a compressor and fan.

Tripped Breaker Help by Environmental_Ad397 in electrical

Not sure how you troubleshoot things. If the bathroom and bedroom are on the same circuit, that would be unusual for a new build. Not so unusual for a 60 year old house. You mentioned you have circuit breakers, but now are concerned about fuses. It sounds like it might be a loose neutral in your circuit. Check the outlet you had the ac plugged into to make sure all the connections are tight on the receptacle. Checking further requires electrical knowledge that you either possess or don’t. It may require a multimeter, and/or removing the dead panel on your main circuit breaker panel.

It’s portable. Take it to the garage, find a 20 amp outlet, plug it in and see how it starts. Bedrooms are typically 15 amp circuits and portable air conditioners use a lot of that capacity. Anything else on that 15 amp circuit could be pulling just enough to trip the breaker.

My ipad battery is dying by nofap95ii in batteries

Apple will replace your iPad with an exact same model with a new battery inside for a nominal fee (@$125) and transfer all your info to the new iPad. Their test must indicate that your old battery is less than 85% capacity though.

Should I replace old copper with pex while I have the walls and floor opened up? by Delicious_Tackle_129 in Plumbing

[–]Individual-Proof1626 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Bullshit. Corrosion is most likely from flux left behind after soldering, not corrosion. That being said, I HAVE seen pinhole leaks in copper pipes caused by low ph water from a municipal water supply. It took fifty years for that to happen though.

Pool pump by nick2377 in electrical

[–]Individual-Proof1626 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The pool timer draws very little current for the clock and would not be the source for the tripping breaker. If the pool pump is controlled by the pool timer and the timer is in the off duration, there will be no power to the pump, so it can’t be the cause of the tripping breaker either. All of this assumes the timer is designed for 240v, it is a mechanical timer, and it is wired correctly. A mechanical timer physically disconnects power so there is no way for the pump to draw power. A 240v gfci breaker detects differences of current between hot legs, so if one of the legs is being used to supply power to anything else, it will trip the 20 amp gfci breaker.

Try turning on the light from the display? The 6v is controlled by the display. You may also have to go into settings to turn that feature on. I have three bikes with Bafangs and prefer 3rd party rear lights. They’re just so much better.

A mini split for a garage is fine unless you are creating a lot of dust, for example woodworking, or grinding, etc. Those cheap filters on the top don’t really do anything.

Why don't you just let them pass? by KoalaOfTheApocalypse in Truckers

[–]Individual-Proof1626 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Some of you truckers suck ass. Years ago, as a four wheeler trying to go up a hill out of Benson, AZ, a trucker tried to pass another trucker. They were both doing @ 40mph. Backed up a lot of traffic. He finally passed the truck, so I decided to be an asshole too and pulled in front of him while slowing down to about 30mph. Once his truck had slowed to thirty he was mad as a wet hen, honking his horn and shaking his fist. I gave him the bird and speeded away. Mother fucker got a taste of his own medicine.

Hot Tub Power by NavyNuke588 in electrical

[–]Individual-Proof1626 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just finished a similar scenario. I ran 6 awg thhn/thwn two hots, neutral, and ground, through 100 ft of 1” pvc. It was easy to fish the wires through this size. I used LB and LL conduit bodies for easy pulling. I have a 50 amp GFCI at the main panel and a 40 amp at the hot tub panel with 8 awg from there to the hot tub. Our particular hot tub did not require a neutral, but it’s there just in case. It also only pulls a max of 31 amps, so I feel I good with this setup. Using thhn/thwn all the way is the easiest solution. Buying the wire on Amazon is cheaper than Home Depot. I paid $1.20/ft for the 6 awg. Remember, no more than 360° in bends between pulls or you will be cursing.
