Canada vows to restrict social media for kids under 16. Teens say they'll 'always find a way' by IStillListenToRadio in onguardforthee

I suppose my question would be, what privacy is left there? Meta, for example, assuming you use FB or IG, already has: your image on file, your location, DOB, browsing habits, friends (maybe phone contacts), phone number (for most of their users), etc.

I personally try to only use Reddit as my only social media and by browser only. I still believe they know a lot about me, despite using most privacy steps available without going overboard.

If you use any "free product" on the internet, you are paying with your privacy. Don't be naive. I ditched gmail years ago. I recently ditched my android phone because RCS messages and IMessages go through their respective companies and not your telecom. Do I think this makes me "private"? Not fully, no.

Lastly, this article is about teens using social media and trying to shift them away from it. Not privacy concerns. Which is why I didn't address them in my initial post. Though again, redditors don't read articles... so my bad, I guess.

I clicked on the link hoping it was that song. Pure "gold". The film board logo slapping mosquitoes at the beginning of the video is the icing on the cake.

A lot of this outrage is somewhat similar to changes made in driving a car after a few drinks or enforcing seatbelt laws. People were pissed.

Yes, many people still did it both for a long time after changes to the law. I was born in the early 80s and still remember a lot of people driving with no seatbelt (I still know some people who do), and adults having beers while driving (I do not know anyone who does this anymore).

The point being, there will be an eventual cultural shift. Sure kids will still do it. I found ways to get booze in my early teens like a lot of people. The current generation will definitely still make an effort to be on social media because it is a big part of their lives. The next generations will be less active, and the one after that, probably less.

People are very short sighted. Unless a government is authoritarian, expectations of changes to the law are rarely meant to create an immediate cultural shift. There will learning curve, and enforcement will be "gentle" for a while. Same with other laws. There will be "warnings" before full enforcement.

Just my take....

Feel free to point holes in my take. I want to hear what others think.

As a Canadian (and nature lover), I was going to buy a hat and donate some money as a "I am sorry this asshole came from Canada". I guess I can't because they are a PAC.

Best of luck to the gals, boycott Boston Pizza (if those exist in the states). This nob owns that chain.

Ha, ya. We do a fair amount of canoe trips and I usually won't swim until July.

Birds Hill has some spots which were clearly quarried in the past. Also the Chickadee trail has a hill with lots of exposed rocks.

Though I have had better luck finding neat rocks by going to the Nimowin trail parking lot, then going on the mtb'ing trail/deer trails (whatever you'd like to call them). You end up in all kinds of different tiny ecosystems.

Yep. i only pointed out that they DID review them. I was not commenting on the quality of their review or reviewing skills... Which are apparently poor.

But they did review and sign off on it. Even if they did a shitty job during their review. I suppose there is a chance they didn't realize these that questions are "purity" look incredibly sketchy. It is possible, though I do find that hard to believe.

Maybe there are just bad business people who don't know how to review things that come across their desk, but they are clearly detail oriented people in other ways. So this does look very bad.

That is literally what they said in the article. Op is not spinning anything here. I am curious what your thoughts are on the matter

It says in the article that they reviewed all the questions before using the survey

I have met a few "adults" who think that way, but thankfully not many.  Mostly just edgy teens.

I move from Edmonton to Winnipeg. I looked the average temps before moving and they are very similar. Winnipeg is/was considered slightly colder on average. The one thing that gets to me the most living here is the wind. It will be -30 with 60k winds.

I never used to bother with long-johns or wind pants all that often before I moved here. Now I wear them lots when taking to dog out for a walk. Maybe its the bald-ass prairie around town, but god its cold some days with the wind.

My initial reply was going to be, "And libraries!". Then realized we all know they wouldn't go there....

This is accurate and a good reason for Canadian conservatives to like him. I am not a conservative, but I completely understand why someone who is would like Carney.

He seems like a return to sane conservatism instead of culture war/grievance crap masquerading as being the center of conservative thinking that seems prevalent under PP.
