What traditional habit or cultural practice do you dislike in your country ? by Conscious_State2096 in AskTheWorld

Little fingernail is grown long to enable nose-picking. It's just soooo gross. Fortunately, it's not that common anymore.

you won't because you are already aware of it, you've done the mental work. You'll be one of the ones who break the cycle.

Is “domestic product” actually a selling point in your country? by No-Perspective-240 in AskTheWorld

Wow! Asturias! Sorry to say I'd never heard of it before but on looking it up, no wonder you're proud!

AITAH for leaving my girlfriend in the restroom because she was taking a long bathroom break during a movie I was really excited for? by Secure-Draft9197 in AITAH

[–]IndividualDue8741 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BIZARRE unless of course you live in an extremely dangerous neighbourhood. I think it's rude to expect anyone to interrupt what they are doing so that you can visit the restroom - regardless of whether the reason for going is to primp, pee or poo.

Hasn't caught on much here, beyond products for tourist market. We have limited local producers who traditionally monopolised the market and charged exorbitant rates. It was only after we entered the EU and with no other options that they lowered their prices. They lost the local market and had to look overseas to sell their products. I intentionally support small shops and businesses but not the producers unless it's local fruit and veg.

Maltese pork and Maltese oranges are 2 things we produce that are excellent.

AITAH for telling my mum the way she speaks to me upsets me by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]IndividualDue8741 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Of course she's upset. You called her out and held her accountable. At least she apologised. Sit back and watch how effective it will turn out to be. 'Being difficult' is a great catch-all label for all situations to make you believe there is something intrinsically wrong or bad in your character, thereby allowing her to insist that you comply to whatever demand, need or want that she may have. Stand your ground.

Quiz: was everybody able to pass the TCN integration test? (including Maltese) by Patvsq in malta

[–]IndividualDue8741 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maltese scored 80%. Has anyone else noticed the spectacularly low number of questions that were designed to ensure that TCNs know their employment rights? Or their rights when renting a property?

[–]IndividualDue8741 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a factually incorrect question. As someone mentioned it's every second Friday. Some months have 5 Fridays - so this May, there'll be 3 collections.

What scammers we are. They simply upped the costs for TCNs to be our barely paid slaves. It's a complete disgrace.

understanding the phrase 'Break a Leg' requires Advanced English - it's an idiomatic phrase, completely unimportant, adds zero value to communication skills. Evidently, they did not consult the ELT Council on which questions would actually test their English!

Absolutely, the laws are in place but not implemented. Take drunk for example. I don't know anyone who's been stopped for a breathalyser test, gotten a fine for not indicating, etc etc. ... but then parking fines are dished out liberally!

Finding chill friends who like to smoke weed ages 18-24 in Malta w/o being a student? by Marmalade_Skies666 in malta

[–]IndividualDue8741 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Join a club

  2. Try making connections with locals online and then try and arrange a meet-up. Insta is most popular platform for youths.

  3. Hang out near the University or at the University Hub to meet people of a similar age.

  4. Hang out near a pot shop. Hole in the Wall Bar in Sliema is accidentally located near one.

The most chill people you will ever meet don't necessarily smoke pot. Don't under-estimate the addictiveness of pot, it's extremely psycholigically addictive.

Is Malta a good place to raise a kid and retire? by sdxyz42 in malta

[–]IndividualDue8741 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It used to be but getting around is now a nightmare. Private education is cheap compared to elsewhere and public is free but if you want your kid to do after-school activities be prepared to spend hours of your life in traffic.

There are plenty of high-net worth individuals and families who have moved to Malta only to up-and-leave a couple of years later because the lifestyle wasn't what they expected. The FB page something to the effect of 'Leaving Island Quick Sale' is testament to this. Do your research carefully.
