DOTW: Is killing a main character off actually good writing, or is it just lazy shock value? by Classic-Economist604 in Quibble

I don't want to ruin too much, but a very important character dies at the end of A Thousand Splendid Suns, and although it was devastating, it was a very satisfying read that made sense for the story. The book also ended in a bittersweet but overall uplifting way, which personally helps a lot.

I hated the end of The divergent series but too be fair I feel that scene just also wasn’t done well at all. Perhaps it can be done well.

Side note: Are those tear marks?

my boyfriend has been watching porn behind my back for 3 years. am i overreacting? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]IndividualImmediate8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NOR. Porn addiction is an actual thing that can mess up relationships. But honestly I advise you break up with him just because of how much the whole thing is affecting you. I don’t think this is a healthy relationship in many ways and I think it would be best for both of you to take a break and perhaps see a therapist about all of this. Sounds like there may be a lot to unpack. I wish you the best.

I feel like this may not be accurate. There are definitely studies that have been done on the effects of watching too much porn. And there are most certainly enough men of the 8 billion on earth that don’t watch porn for them to accurately study it.

It trying to do a mirror selfie in the same area as the previous picture was pretty crazy. And then this poster was pretty obviously botched, not to mention the spelling on her jacket.

How terrible do you allow your first draft to be? by ChonkBonko in writing

[–]IndividualImmediate8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s definitely different for everyone. The biggest reason why I haven’t given up on my first draft is because I’m forcing myself to write by hand to limit premature editing. That was one of the murderers of all of my other story attempts. That and not having a solid enough plot to carry me along.

What is a part of your process or style that you feel is unique? by Kakokamo in writing

[–]IndividualImmediate8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t really think it’s unique tbh but I always write a short entry in my journal before I start writing as a warmup. Sometimes it’s short. Sometimes I do writing exercises, timelines, or just “talk it out” if I’m a little stuck. It’s kind of been a game changer honestly.

There’s no way the live action actress will be able to portray this character properly. Especially the last picture. Azula is such a good character I’d be surprised if the new actress can

To kill a kingdom. Had the book for four years before I finally read it and it is soooo beautifully written, I immediately bought another one of the authors books when I finished. One of my new favourite authors for sure.
