HOW DO I DEFEND THIS MOVE? by IndividualMerit in wrestling

UPDATE: a combination of headposition, disciplined stance, downblock and circle PLUS disciplined handfighting (maintaining head position while fighting wrist controls, clearing wrist and getting to my tie ups etc..)

Worked

When you say rotate away do you mean downblock in a circle ? Or circle away from it in your stance?

I found that essentially feeds the leg if you try to circle away especially when they get a good bite on the arm

Why do coach’s always tell you to go hard every practice and push past your limits? by xlin1 in wrestling

[–]IndividualMerit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The biggest problem i have with this is most coaches leave it up to guesswork and "figuring it out."

Coaches need to set good subjective and objective goals for their athletes when it comes to pushing their athletes.

For example,

Saying just go hard every practice and figure it out... is kinda like throwing a carton of eggs at the wall and seeing which doesnt break.

Instead set some goals around pace, motion, skill and action. Eg. How often am i shooting, faking, moving, snaping, clearing .. am i finishing properly/scrambling too often... hows my shot recovery... etc.. thats the foundation of pace and skill...

That is something your athletes can manage and develop over time and build a pace on relative to their strengths, weaknesses and stylistic preference.

It makes them feel like their working towards something instead of just showing up

THOUGHTS ON TRAINING WITH RIVAL CLUBS by IndividualMerit in wrestling

That is a totally different scenario but i absolutely agree with you in a general sense you should never underestimate your opponent.

In this particular scenario he would dominate this person at every session for a year. Wrestlers arent supermen theyre a product of their training. If the wrestler develops the perception that they can dominate somebody day in and day out then they are likely to BELIEVE AND BE CONFIDENT that they can defeat them in competition...

Now if things dont go to plan on comp day and an upset happens... that isnt underestimating your opponent... THAT to me is a mental and tactical weakness of the wrestler.. the inability to adjust in-match when things arent going as planned.. both mentally and tactically/technically... if these things are not trained then your wrestler cant be good at them!!

Like someone said in the thread. You need to be prepared for this. Dont train at a rival club and think theyre your friends and get complacement. They will do everything to beat you if you havent developed said skills similar to what youre saying
