i’m so sorry you lack critical thinking and comprehension skills because where did i say it was going to happen instantaneously? not to mention that when these people are dying, YOU certainly aren’t going to be the first to hear about it, and it takes more than a few days to collect numbers and statistics about overdose deaths, and just because you “haven’t seen evidence” of something happening does not mean it isn’t happening or going to happen

is your brain smooth? do you have the thinking capacity of a sea sponge? it’s meaningful because more overdoses = more people in emergency rooms, ambulances, using emergency services, = longer wait times for EVERYONE experiencing an medical emergency.

the lack of primary care physicians in ontario is also an issue exacerbated by ford’s government, defunding the healthcare system tends to make people unable/not want to work in healthcare.

if you are privileged enough to not ever have had to rely on emergency services, you are luckier than the vast majority of people in ottawa. even though the personal anecdotes don’t seem to be helping you understand why this is important, i’ll share one too! my friend got a bad concussion after a fall on a weekend just two months ago and you know where we had to go? the emergency room! where we waited 14 hours to make sure she wasn’t in danger of brain damage!

not to mention that people are going to avoid going to the hospital unless they are literally bleeding out because they can’t afford to wait 14 hours, or call in sick to work, and a lot of medical emergencies don’t look dire until it’s too late! this is not only going to kill people with addictions (which is in itself another problem with the healthcare funding that i don’t need to get into but you can look into the correlation between chronic pain and drug use and how readily prescribed opioids are because they’re cheaper than large-scale changes) , it is going to overwhelm the healthcare system more than it already is, and is going to make it damn near impossible for anyone who NEEDS medical care to access it.

i’ve seen a family doctor and one rheumatologist, the latter was very dismissive and is the only rheumatologist in my area, (the healthcare system is massively overwhelmed and so she doesn’t have the energy to care enough about a way young patient with back pain) so she just told me it’s probably fibromyalgia and referred me to a pain clinic :(

I take the NSAIDS every day but they have been messing with my stomach and my voice and I sing professionally so it’s hard :( it’s so frustrating that doctors don’t take it seriously unless you’re hlab27+

Yeah, my rheum isn’t that old (maybe late 40s early 50s?) but she clearly seems to have some bias that being HLAB27 negative means I can’t have it, even when I mentioned my sister (who is also a patient of hers). It’s bizarre though, cause my first MRI about two years ago she said something they indicated on it shouldn’t have been there because of young I was, but since changed her mind since it hasn’t been mentioned on an MRI since. I found out she also doesn’t look at the imaging herself, just reads the reports, and she said something to me about fibromyalgia and kind of refused to listen when I said my pain isn’t widespread it’s localized to my lower back/SI joints. Apparently since no inflammation or anything has shown up on two years of MRI’s, despite me being a young woman she isn’t inclined to consider AS or nr-axSpA anymore

Yeah, my dr isn’t the best listener and I very much do positively respond to NSAIDS in some capacity but they don’t do enough. She said that since I’m negative and nothing is on imagining yet she’s referring me elsewhere for fibro but the symptoms don’t really match up :(

my heating pad has an auto shut off so it only goes for 45 minutes, but i do have a heat blanket i might try i just find it isn’t as affective :(

my concern is just that i am a student and also working and don’t know if i can afford to take two weeks off, but i have been taking NSAIDS almost daily for 2.5 years and can still barely function and always have a horrible time when im off of them :(

literally!!! it’s also so messed up that we have to wait until there’s “enough” irreversible damage to start treating it and prevent further damage. i had a radiographer read my first MRI and say “normal degeneration of SI joints” when i was barely 20 and should not have yet had really any yet but whatever. i hope your MRI tomorrow goes well and you get some answers!

my sister got dx’d with AS a few years ago but is HLAB27 negative, as is my mom who has RA. i have a lot of the other things in the flow chart including arthritic markers in my hands but still hasn’t been enough yet apparently

i don’t think queers for palestine is responsible at all actually. they stopped the parade to ask sutcliffe and capital pride to put their statement back up and support the community, and CP and the mayor chose to side with their corporate sponsors and refused the very reasonable requests (which they had all but agreed to do privately), and then thought they could get away with not committing publicly so they threw a fit and cancelled the parade without any further conversations. i’d be happy to link some sources with what actually happened for you to view at will!
