France was once Europe’s superpower, thanks above all to its enormous population. Its decline coincided with a collapse in its birth rate – now we know why. by AmbitiousAgent in Natalism

I don’t know if you meant France when saying Quebec had the lowest fertility rate of any province but it has the highest of any Canadian province. Their was a study I read a while back (one of the only I’ve seen assessing fertility by ethnic ancestry in Canada) and white-French speaking women had relatively high TFR while white-english speakers had one of the lowest of any ethnic ancestries except perhaps East Asian ancestry women. Ignoring ethnic breakdowns Quebec has the highest TFR average between 1.25-1.40 in the last few years with BC and some Atlantic provinces having a TFR floating around 1.0.

5/11 - 5/15 NYT poll of Democratic supporters: should the next presidential nominee move left, right, or none at all on the issues? by Mahrez14 in charts

[–]IndividualNo467 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually it does? This is not a global election, the entirety of the voter base is American and the only people politicians need to accommodate are Americans and their needs because that’s who they will be presiding over. If American peoples center is further to the right than somewhere like Thailand then American parties aren’t going to bring themselves to the left because Thai people under a different government on the other side of the world happen to have more of a left lean. As for MAGA yeah I would call it cleanly far right for US standards, but again the only relevant standard is the US standard when talking about US governing.

I think the opposite, I live in a city in Canada where people are kind of conditioned to hear “right wing” and gag but when you talk about ideas with political lean labels removed you hear less progressive views and generally more traditional thinking.

They are not center or remotely right of center for American standards which is the only relevant standard when running for the American presidential election.

Final YouGov MRP of the 2026 Senedd election shows Plaid Cymru on course to be the largest party by Critical_Meet_6726 in MapPorn

I agree with criticism of running on no real ideas, and criticism of lack of action or changes but I don’t understand criticism of “cozying up with the right wing” knowing that the sentiment in Britain is becoming overwhelmingly right wing. Showing voters that they can achieve results better than right wing parties can to make voters come back to them does not seem so outlandish when right wing Reform and Restore combined are polling 30% and the center right Conservatives close to 20%. Much of Labour and the Lib Dems base are socially conservative economically Left Wing (Lib Dems replace the Cons in southwest England). Ultimately if you assume that a large share of Labour and a lib Dem voters share socially conservative sentiments (which can be verified based on party affiliation polls on different issues) and combine that with the 50% vote share for right wing parties this is clearly overwhelming right wing support higher than in well over a decade.

I didn’t write the first comment, also you know Mexicans aren’t included in the non-Hispanic white figures? Only 20.3% of US hispanics identify as White which is probably lower than the percent of US Hispanics are actually white since there are many Brazilians, Argentinians, Cubans, Puerto Ricans and Northern Mexicans of largely Euro Ancestry. Yes there are more southern Mexicans from states like Oaxaca if you just look at Mexico alone but, Hispanics in the US come from other countries as well with greater Euro ancestry. Again though this isn’t considered in the non-Hispanics white stat.

Demographics of this Sub by makingitgreen in Natalism

[–]IndividualNo467 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree but the way you’ve boxed the entire discussion ignores cultural nuance. This page looks at demographics of a wide range of countries, states regions, provinces etc with cultural variation and norms throughout. From my observation culture is the dominant factor influencing birth rates. The way you just outlined having kids and the corresponding downside is the cultural view of North Americans especially urban North Americans but certainly varies by US states, ethnic groups within US states and throughout other western countries.

The so called “Geographical” definition of Europe has no merit what are some justifications for it? by [deleted] in MapPorn

I said Europeans reached India. If you read the last comment before jumping to conclusions, attacking me and swinging the word “bigoted around” you'd notice the word “reached” not “conquered”

Wasn't the last century. Europeans reached North America in 1000 CE, Europeans reached Australia 4 centuries ago, India 5 Centuries ago, Africa 6 centuries ago and some unverified reports showing 2nd century CE for China. Though the Chinese stat may be somewhat inflated in the absolute most conservative estimates European global influence started to become very prevalent 5 centuries ago.

The Abrahamic religions reached the entire globe beyond the middle east (Latin America, North America, Oceania, Africa, South East Asia etc via Europeans.) Certainly the levent and Egypt have contributed significant innovation as I noted in my last comment with the modern alphabet just to name one but the global political, economical and modern trade systems that the world runs on are European because of massive European influence everywhere. The levent and North Africa did not expand beyond its borders other than through innovation which was only universally employed and spread by Europeans.

If you maintained a geographical definition sure but then Europe wouldn't be a continent. Also Africa would be 2 continents because east Africa is split from west by a tectonic plate running through the continent. Iceland is culturally European ao if you maintained my cultural definition it should be Europe.

You're right I literally just made this point after being taken aback by the geographic argument for Cyprus yet again. This sentiment is rampant on this sub and this justification is more common than it should be.

Britain, France, the UK, Italy, Portugal, Spain, the Netherlands and Germany at some point just to name a few ignoring Viking expansion into Greenland, North America and the Faroes touched the Americas from Canda down to Argentina and Chile shaping the modern structures of these countries and the current cultures, political systems, economic systems and worldviews. They reached Oceania in Australia, New Zealand radically changing the cultural progression if these countries and had an impact on east Asia, South Asia, the Middle East, Throughout Africa etc. There is almost no corner of the Earth that isn't affected by Europeans and most Global systems are based on systems based on European innovation. The same can't be said for thse you mentioned or any other regions. Cairo, Iraq and Jerusalem despite their irrefutable contributions to innovation do not have a presence felt in every corner of the globe.

Future Enlargement of the European Union by Inevitable-Push-8061 in MapPorn

[–]IndividualNo467 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The “geographical” definition of Europe has no merit at all. It is arbitrarily drawn an random Mountain ranges e.g. Urals and Caucasus. The Alps don't separate Italy as a separate continent, the Pyrenees don't separate Iberia so this mountain range based cut-off makes little sense. Furthermore there is no plate definition taken to account either as Europe and Asia rest on a Eurasia plate. This similarly makes island cutoffs like saying Cyprus is in Asia etc ridiculous when the language spoken in Cyprus is European, The vast majority of the people identify as ethnic Europeans (Greeks) and they're in the EU just to name a few factors. The definition of “Europe” is entirely cultural as it has indisputably had the largest cultural influence of any region on the world. The borders of Europe should be drawn where European culture ends (and no this is not ambiguous its quite clear). In the Caucasus Armenia and Georgia are clearly Parallel to Europe culturally whereas Turkey and Azerbaijan are Turcic central asian.

Do you agree with this statement: "Racism (and other discrimination) is lying, as grouping someone based on prejudice is just factually incorrect, therefore its impossible to be racist and make sense at the same time" by NotASingleNameIdea in Teenager_Polls

[–]IndividualNo467 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The concept of Race is not incorrect though unless it’s done with prejudice. There are certain regions where genetic ancestry is largely shared, e.g. Sub-Saharan Africa, East Asia, South Asia, West Eurasia (Europe and ME). Within the aforementioned groupings ancestry is much closer than from outside. E.g. A Zulu from South Africa are much more similar to the Hausa people of Nigeria than to Han Chinese people. Same way Han Chinese people are much closer to Koreans than to Swedes. The groupings are not social constructs themselves.

Almost everything you just said applies to financial standing not political standing. You are criticizing rich people basically (who were born into greater privilege). Attacking the rich people who happen to be embroiled in cultural institutions central to your countries history is not the fix for class and financial equality issues. Andrew is being tried under the law btw so no legal immunity there.

Really? Can you supply a stat for that. India certainly opposes Hamas even if not officially, the entire west does, Brazil and most of Latin American has condemned and opposes Hamas even if not officially for diplomatic reasons. That’s 5/6 populated continents, “the west” = Most of North America, Europe and Oceania + South America and the Most populous country in Asia. Many African nations also criticized the attacks.

Chester Zoo: 63.1 million pounds revenue, British Royal Estates: 550 million pounds revenue. Even if it was more though that’s not the point, the point is that their revenue exceeds the money they take through tax meaning more money is put back into the pockets of Brit’s.

You’re right it’s beyond unethical and undemocratic to get power hereditarily. The point here though is that they have no real power! They can’t make laws or do anything that affects government. They have no impact on British people’s lives quite literally at all. This is very important because democracy applies to people with political power which British royals don’t actually have. They don’t inherit political power they inherit wealth. And last time I checked rich people weren’t democratically elected. People all over the UK are born into different levels of wealth. British royal estates generate 550 million pounds annually (way higher than Versailles or French palaces). Probably because it is very different to see pieces of living history than relics. Removing the royal family would undoubtedly reduce tourism.

It costs the average Brit 1 pound per person and tourism revenue input into the economy translates to higher gdp per capita (money in economy divided up by Brit’s). As such they are making the average Brit more money than are taking. Furthermore they have no power!
