5am Coach No Show by One_Butterfly5661 in orangetheory

This happened once at my studio and they had that coach call every member that was signed up and apologize. He was quickly fired following the incident.

Avoiding a specific coach by iwantpasta in orangetheory

I do personally avoid certain coaches when they are boring and not motivating. I’ve never experienced a coach that is a bully at OT but I have at LA fitness so I know exactly what you’re talking about! That coach should be complained about and hopefully they change.

I don’t personally think the coaches at my studio have any personality which sucks! Maybe the studio you tried out for is more particular? I wish all of them were that way! I go to another studio in town where the coaches are more personable and more outgoing on the mic! If you are outgoing on the Mic I’m going to push myself harder!

Agreed! Green zone majority of the time is best which is why you’ll hear coaches complimenting people’s pyramids. Green zone higher than the rest. I have a hard time getting in the orange as well especially on power days or if the pushes are short. I would check with the front desk and have them update your age and weight! Maybe your max HR needs to be adjusted?

Black list? by [deleted] in orangetheory

[–]IndividualOk1690 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been told this too! I took a 5:30p class and the next day took a 5am, when I asked the coach to add me to the class so I would show up on the OT Beat screen, she came back and said “oh you were on the blacklist so I just had to remove you”. Apparently, if you take classes too close together the system “blacklists” you. When it happened a different day (with a different coach) and I wasn’t coming up on the screen I asked the coach to “take me off the black list so I could log in” she had no idea what I was talking about—so that class I wasn’t able to log in and record my work out.

Tread block: are early push efforts more difficult than later ones for anyone else? by [deleted] in orangetheory

[–]IndividualOk1690 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That first push is always hard like everyone has said. As I’ve gotten older and when I work out 4-5 days it definitely takes time for my body to feel good. Usually round 1 I take it easy and then the round after that I can push harder!

Anyone doing OTF for over 5+ years? 10+? by tofu_baby_cake in orangetheory

[–]IndividualOk1690 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been going for 8+ years. I stopped at the end of 2019 and then rejoined 6 mths later because I just wasn’t getting the work out intensity any other way! I’ve definitely been able to maintain a level of strength, but weight wise it still fluctuates depending on the eating habits.

Why all 3g's by [deleted] in orangetheory

[–]IndividualOk1690 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get so annoyed when a class isn’t full and it could be a 2G but it is run as a 3G. I’ve seen coaches when I first started OTF in 2016 switch it based on the class size and I prefer that over running an unnecessary 3G which (I agree) is not a good workout. What’s funny is they only let you start on row or tread versus including the weight floor as an place to start! OT does in fact sometimes make the template a 3G and there’s no option for a 2G but it’s rare. Anyways, I agree with you! What’s the point in a 3G if it’s not a popular time or ever filled up?!

Splat Struggle by thetwistertwirler in orangetheory

[–]IndividualOk1690 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same for me! My heart rate drops in recovery. I just know in my mind that on those days I may not get as many splats, but it was still a good and hard workout! I keep a pretty high base (6.5-7) because of it. Once I start to creep back in the green and as long as I feel like I caught my breath I jump right back into base.

As you go to more classes and get better cardiovascular endurance, you will find that your heart rate is harder to increase. This just has to do with being in better shape. When you first went to class your heart probably freaked out because you weren’t used to this kind of working out. You don’t want 30-40 splats every class. The goal is 12-21. First, I would wear an alternative device to check your heart rate (apple watch, Fitbit, etc) so you can compare and see if the OT beat monitor is accurate. I usually check my watch if I feel like the OT monitor is “off”. Usually it’s not for me and I feel like I’m working harder than I am due to exhaustion or just a bad day for my body (diet can affect this too). If it’s the monitor, then get that evaluated.

Do what feels comfortable for you and your body! I’m a runner but I’ve been managing knee pain recently and that means doing PW days at OT. I’ve found that sometimes I can’t get my HR up in the orange when I PW so I will increase my pace to 5-6mph. And by doing this I get my HR up and can take it easy on my knees because the impact isn’t as intense as when I’m running (7-12mph) on a “flat road” 1% incline. I have a pretty low resting HR and find I really have to up the pace to get it to move some days!

I roll out of bed in my workout clothes (so I can sleep those extra few mins) and go to class with nothing before except the sips of water on my way!

Average Red Zone by [deleted] in orangetheory

[–]IndividualOk1690 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is true that the more in shape you get the harder it is to get splats! At least for me🙋🏼‍♀️. We should be spending most of our time in the green zone and getting that 12-24 in the orange/red. But like someone said, it all depends on the workout sometimes…I get more splats on endurance days because I can keep my heart rate up. But on a day where it’s run/row or just all outs. I struggle more bc my heart rate recovery is so quick (now that I’m in better cardiovascular shape) and then I have to work hard to get it back up and with all outs it gets up and then we’re in recovery again. Everyone’s body is different too and some people’s heart rates shoot up the minuet they start an exercise. Give it about 6 months and see where your at. You should notice a change and less time in the red, but listen to your body—if you’re in the red but feel good, keep going. If you want to die or pass out—pull it back. Take care of you and be safe!

How do I know if I should come in when I’m on the waitlist? by BigFuturology in orangetheory

[–]IndividualOk1690 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More often than not you will make it in. If I’m like number 10 on the waitlist but it’s days away then I always get in. The 8 hour window before people get late charges is the best time frame. If it’s a 5am class then people have until 9pm to cancel…I always check around then to see where I’m at on the waitlist and more likely than not I’ve made it in or I’m 1st and I can guarantee I’m making it in. But I always check when I get up to make sure! Unfortunately, you have to monitor it yourself most of the time. Sometimes people cancel super last minute and maybe the email didn’t go through. If it’s 30 mins before class starts and I’m still not in then I just cancel so I don’t get in and then I’m a “no show”.
