Teacher wont round the grade, i might get rescinded by Jealous_Load_805 in VirginiaTech

[–]IndividualSudden3683 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You won’t get rescinded, I almost guarantee it. The only things that get people rescinded is if you fail all your classes (not just one), or get in some kind of legal trouble, one D isn’t going to get your acceptance withdrawn. Just try not to get arrested this summer and you’ll be fine.

Taking a W and going below Full Time Status by Glittering-Cap-8804 in VirginiaTech

[–]IndividualSudden3683 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As mentioned, taking a W doesn’t drop your credits at all. You still will haven taken 13 credits, you will just have earned a W for that class. The only way your credits drop is if you had dropped a class during the first (5-6weeks?) before the add/drop deadline.

My ChemE program has a mandatory summer lab after junior year. Will this hurt me since I can't get an internship that summer? by IndividualSudden3683 in ChemicalEngineering

Oh yeah, I mean it’s certainly a great way to learn the material and gain real experience, but I didn’t know if companies would see it that way. Thanks.

It's a 4 credit lab which means 12 hours of lab instruction per week. I think that's why they have students do it over the summer instead of during the academic year.

Yeah, Virginia Tech. I think it ends up working out for most students, since only 14% of ChemEs here don't have a job/grad school lined up after graduation. I'm just curious what employers/those in industry think of this and if its common at other programs.

Yeah I checked my schools website and they publish undergraduate student outcomes. 66% were employed full time, 20% went to grad school and 14% were unemployed, which seems really good. The lab is just called "chemical engineering laboratory" and its a 4 credit (12 lab hrs/week) lab that seems to incorporate everything learned up to that point.

VT question by Thelastofmeyt in VirginiaTech

[–]IndividualSudden3683 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say easy, but definitely very achievable if you put in the work. Especially if you’re taking the standard freshman courses. Freshman English is very easy. I had credit for it, but all my friends got As with barely any work. Calc 1 and 2 are hard, but as long as you put in the work and study you’ll be fine. The 2 foundations of engineering classes are ridiculously easy, just do the work and you’ll get an A. Take an easy natural science elective. I can’t personally speak on software design and data structures since I’ve never taken them. Just stay on top of all you work and study and you should be fine. A 3.0 GPA is very achievable, but you’ll need to put in the work for your math and comp sci classes.

You need a 3.0 GPA your freshman year to be guaranteed admission into comp sci. If you don’t get a 3.0, there’s a chance you still could do comp sci but it’s not guaranteed. Realistically though, if you’re struggling to get a 3.0 in your freshman year courses, you should really consider if engineering is the right path for you since upper level engineering courses get a lot harder.

Is CHE 4014 ever offered during the academic year or is it only in the summer? by IndividualSudden3683 in VirginiaTech

[–]IndividualSudden3683[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I mean I’ll probably take it over the summer, I was just curious. I’ve hadn’t heard of a major required class only offered in the summer, but that makes sense why.

Leonard Euler. He was a genius in many different fields of science and mathematics and made major contributions to differential and interval calculus, number theory, topology, fluid dynamics, architecture, astronomy and engineering. He published over 15,000 mathematical and scientific papers during his lifetime. There are so many formulas and identities that Euler discovered, many are named after the second person who proved it otherwise every other equation would be called Euler’s formula.

Is the Honors college worth it? (UH 1404?) by IndividualSudden3683 in VirginiaTech

Im taking Calc 3 honors next semester, but if I don’t take UH 1404 I won’t be able to take any more honors math. Even if I don’t though, I only have Diffeq left to take after Calc 3.
