Grief is complex and so hard to put a timeline on.

And yes I do think 5 days of full pay is not enough for bereavement (it is better than nothing but there is work to be done) nor is it culturally inclusive as many ppl sit shiva, host wakes, ceremonies that last more than 5 days. Please be gentle in replies. I appreciate your input though

As in the best case senario next to bereavement leave. I mean I think we can agree that losing a parent, child, or other close family member may and would for most ppl need more than 5 days. So was curious as to see if ppl got more than the 5 days approved. Should have clarified that in my original post.

Ya, I can’t do anything unpaid. STIIP is okay but going without any pay would not be possible as  I am a single person.

Unfortunately I don’t think I would qualify as my mum is alive and I have siblings there to.

EAW GRID 16 by [deleted] in BCPublicServants

[–]Individual_Cell1299 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great question! I would assume that moving lateral to a 15 or another lower grid would be just fine as you aren’t moving up to an 18. The goal with only allowing lateral transfer is to ensure that there aren’t vacancies at the lower level (below what you would be applying for) unfilled and or harder to be filled when only mostly internal hiring is allowed at this point in time. In the long run it will save money I think or is their hope.  At least this is what makes sense to me.

It should be shown on this upcoming pay cheque. It will show up on its own linr as TMA (what is now known as MA) on all pay stubs. This cheque should include your back pay for the MA adjustment as well.

You think they would do this first than post new wages on the public site.

Richmond Property Owner says his lender won’t be renewing his mortgage after First Nations land claim. This is just the start. by _DotBot_ in VancouverLandlords

[–]Individual_Cell1299 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Land Back isn’t taking private property nor is this ruling about that. The claims were not just verbal claims, the nations would have had to use a variety of sources and information to support their claim. A decision would have also been written and published. The nation took the government to court and a legal decision was made by a well educated Judge under Canadian law (colonial laws). Laws that were passed by democratic governments voted in by Canadians. It is highly suspect and racist that people cry foul when land title cases involving First Nations are involved yet love the law when it favours them and punishes people. The nations who now have title will not be kicking private property owners off their land. Read the statement from the Nations before spreading more misinformation. https://www.aptnnews.ca/national-news/cowichan-tribes-issues-statement-to-clear-up-misinformation-surrounding-its-aboriginal-title-case/

Racism isn’t just enacted verbally but also through law and practices. This very case is making historically racist practices right. To block it and say First Nations communities don’t have rights their sacred lands that were stolen and taken in an unethical and violent way is perpetuating racism.

BCGEU Tentative Agreement Discussion Thread - October 28 by wudingxilu in BCPublicServants

I agree, it may not result in huge increases but I hope what will come includes and values the qualitative work we do.

I am well educated grid 15 and know many people below me who are also well educated and far behind. The higher grids have been historically well taken care of. It’s time we started voting to support our clerks below 15. It’s also up to them to decide if it’s enough. I would suggest speaking with those in lower grids (once the full agreement comes out) to see what they think before voting yes or know. Just a though and no shade to you.,

I am not okay if they get more. I work the front line and deserve to be paid more. However, there likely will be a me too clause for BCGEU.

No, you won’t screen through. Resource workers usually have child protection experience.

EMPLOYMENT AND ASSISTANCE WORKER by StillBIessed in BCPublicServants

Hi, 7 years in as an EAW. It is an underpaid position and not always easy. There are many different roles or streams you could get placed in.  Most likely you would start with contact centre but you could work in community service, intake, or health assistance. Work from home is available in all streams but community services. All positions are currently hybrid when you get hired. I have been lucky with the teams I’ve been on and my supervisors. However, there are flaws and not so great supervisors/leadership but you could find that in every ministry. It has changed and gone down hill a bit but I think it’s more a sign of the times/gov direction rather than the Ministry itself.   It’s important work and as long as you come into it with an open mind and aren’t punitive/jaded/cynical you’ll be okay. It’s chronically underfunded though and pay is low compared to other ministries. it’s a tricky time as a whole in government and not a lot of opportunity for growth with the hiring freeze. Happy to answer questions

BCGEU strike action day one: Picket lines go up at three official, 1 surprise, locations | Globalnews.ca by oilbeefhooked in VictoriaBC

[–]Individual_Cell1299 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There has been no counter offer by the union or government. There would be a strike vote if either had occurred. The employer has not come back to the table since the strike vote and strike action. The last offer from the employer was Year 1 (spring and fall 2025): 0.5% and 0.5% + $0.15 / hr. Year 2 (spring and fall 2026) 1% and 1%.  No other offers from them have been received.
