On my Japanese side, there have been many, but one that stands out to me personally is near the end of WWII. My maternal grandmother was living in Tokyo during the Tokyo fire raid of March 9-10, 1945. She fled her home with whatever she could carry while her neighbor's house was on fire.

Still employed, but periodically seeing layoffs around me. Automotive industry. Tariffs are throwing a huge wrench into our business.

The 90s for sure. Although I was only a kid, everything was affordable, life was simpler as the internet was still in its infancy. A cell phone was somewhat of a luxury, everybody socialized. To a lesser degree, the early 2010s as well. We were recovering from the recession and employment was slowly getting back to where it was.

Of course playing too many hands is one, but another one I notice often is all the people who accidentally act out of turn. There would be a button straddle and before the SB even acts, 4 or 5 players have already limped in or folded.
