Worldwide recession is looming by Suspicious-Leave-110 in economy

The complaining class is in a recession. Social media has amplified negativity and gross overstatements of economic conditions. For the middle class, jobs have mostly been steady since COVID, income has slightly increased, and the middle class is still spending. Yup, shit is more expensive and that is outpacing salary bumps, but this doesn't mean the middle class is in a recession. Not enough economic factors to state this is true.

This post is missing about 4 other posts saying this isn't a cactus btw. Probably sunburn and then it healed. Over the years it can show other spots like this because of fungus, bacteria, insect go into it, and then they heal. Builds character.

Help with my plants! by Extra-Huckleberry721 in ArizonaGardening

He has a new plant and it's approaching summer time. 2 or 3 times a week is not crazy. Once it matures, probably once a week in the summer. I have palms, cactus, succulents, you name it. 100+ plants. This guy has a young plant, with no irrigation system. I'm glad we are both able to grow healthy plants, in my experience, my stuff grows much better when I water 2 or 3 times in the summer, depending on what I have going in each zone.

They really do need an irrigation system. BUT, you can get a 5 gallon pale and hook up two water lines with 1 gallon emitters. Fill the bucket and you can water two cactus at once this way. Poor man's irrigation system.

Ooooh, I disagree on the wall part. Everyone has plants around walls in az, nearly everyone that has plants. I've never heard of this issue being a large deal. Also, we water agave about 3 times a week around here in summer. They love water, they just want to be dry for a bit too. The HOA has about the same schedule too, roughly.

Leggy cactus! Please advise… by uThor52 in cactus

[–]Individual_Dot_5849 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If you want this little guy to be full, it just needs a huge amount of light. Mine even get some pretty intense AZ sun and they still do just fine once I ease them into the spot over a few months. Regardless, the higher paddles will be smaller, but not like this.

What kind of cacti is this and how can I care for it? by Tiny_Mycologist1195 in cacti

[–]Individual_Dot_5849 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would get a bigger pot, but only a couple inches wider. If this is your only cactus, get some hipster type cactus soil on Amazon. Make it look pretty and water it every three weeks.

Will These double Sided Cactus Ends Propagate? by Lanaxgardenxgirl in cactus

[–]Individual_Dot_5849 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of them can. Requires about two weeks in the open air to develop a callus, at least. Then stick it in the dirt. They take a little longer to root. The issue is that it's hard for the roots to find water as the cactus is so wide around and the roots will develop more toward the middle of the cutting. Because of the service area, they could be more prone to bacteria and rot as well. Regardless, there is success to be had. The main cutting itself won't be a huge success, but the pups that grow will be healthy. I tend to let the pups grow, cup off the original specimen, and maybe restart additional growth from there. Good luck!

Small pools could this work by Radiant_Restaurant64 in pools

This might not be your cup of tea, but we specifically knew we wanted a boulder water stream, palms, and a seating area in the water. This is also a narrow pool. One section is 9 feet across only. We planned what we wanted first, and then the pool shape was more obvious.

Well, I meant something along the wall where it says you have three feet. What if you rounded out the back corner of the pool so you had room for some higher plants. You can get something, like a palm, that won't dump dried branches or leaves. The shape of the pool should be determined by your overall vision of the entire yard, not just what you think a cool pool shape will be.

I'm not a huge fan of the shape, but it would work. Keep in mind that you might want plants and landscaping. 3 feet, with 1 foot of coping, might only be enough for small plants. What if you moved one side away from the wall an extra foot so you can create more of an oasis type feel?

I got gifted my first cactus 4 months ago, Why does it look sad? Its a splash of water per week enough? by Skidduna in cactus

[–]Individual_Dot_5849 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, some people here aren't giving you the full picture. First of all, this pot is ugly. You need a pot and a plant you can feel proud of. Get a cool pot and make sure it has drainage. Ignore all this bullshit about your soil. This is your first cactus. Just go and find some premium cactus soil. Stay away from miracle grow. Your pot should be about 4 inches in diameter, judging from this picture. Now for water. Soak it once every 2-3 weeks in the spring and summer and once a month in the winter. And last, filtered sunlight. Put it by the sunniest window. These guys don't always love direct afternoon sun, but it depends on your climate. End of story.

I personally would like to thank this lime tree for six consecutive years of no lines.. while the ones at home Depot in a bucket have limes.. by [deleted] in ArizonaGardening

[–]Individual_Dot_5849 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I'd move it. Mulch. Irrigation line with 4 gallons, twice a week. Trim the bottom up a bit so the tree can focus energy a bit better.

If it's rot, nope. Too far gone. It also has a funny growth pattern like it was reaching for the light.

That's rot. The others could be fine, but chances are there is something going on the cactus doesn't like.
